
Senior Technical Designer – Children’s Apparel

Position Overview The
Senior Technical Designer
is responsible for owning the full lifecycle of technical development—from design handoff through production approval—ensuring all children’s apparel styles meet the brand’s standards for fit, construction, quality, compliance, and consistency. This role collaborates closely with Design, Product Development, Production, Merchandising, and overseas vendors to deliver production‑ready garments. The Senior Technical Designer also serves as a technical leader, guiding junior team members and driving process improvements and digital innovation‑ready garments. Key Responsibilities 1. Product Development, Fit & Construction
Create, update, and maintain complete technical packages (tech packs, BOMs, graded specs, construction pages) in PLM.
Measure and evaluate samples across all stages: proto, fit, PP, and TOP.
Lead fit sessions, analyze garment fit and construction, and issue clear, detailed fit comments including diagrams and construction direction.
Ensure all garments meet brand standards for quality, function, durability, and fit accuracy.
Maintain and enforce children’s apparel safety and compliance standards.
Act as the primary technical point of contact for overseas factories; resolve issues and ensure on‑time sample execution.
Partner with Design to translate concepts into development‑ready technical specifications.
Work closely with Product Development, Production, and Merchandising to align on milestones and product quality expectations.
Maintain strong organization and follow through to keep styles on schedule for key meetings and deadlines.
3. Quality, Compliance & Technical Standards
Review construction details, trims, and fabrics for technical feasibility and long‑term performance.
Monitor vendor performance and provide corrective feedback as needed.
Uphold category specific standards and ensure consistent execution across all styles.
Maintain accurate documentation and approvals in PLM, including sample tracking.
Support and lead continuous improvement initiatives to streamline technical design processes.
Champion digital innovation—including 3D tools such as Browzwear—to modernize workflows and support virtual sampling.
Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior team members.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Technical Design, Fashion Design, or related field (or equivalent experience).
7+ years of technical design experience, including 3+ years in children’s apparel.
Deep understanding of garment construction, patternmaking, grading, and fit standards.
Strong command of children’s apparel category nuances and compliance requirements.
Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Excel, and industry PLM systems (BeProduct, Bamboo Rose); Browzwear/3D experience preferred.
Ability to clearly articulate technical direction through written comments, diagrams, and verbal communication.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple styles in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
Experience partnering with overseas factories and mentoring junior team members.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in Baby, Toddler, Girls, and/or Boys categories.
Experience working with major retailers (e.g., Walmart).
Knowledge of BeProduct PLM and digital fit/3D tools.
