About the Role
VP Engineering is seeking an experienced
Mechanical Design Engineer
to join our growing MEP consulting team. This role is ideal for an HVAC-focused engineer with experience in
multifamily and commercial building design
who thrives in a collaborative, quality-driven environment. You’ll work closely with Project Managers, Design Managers, and fellow engineers to deliver
code-compliant, constructible, and client-focused mechanical designs
across a diverse portfolio of projects. What You'll Do
Collaborate with Design Managers and project teams to uphold mechanical design standards and quality control Develop and review mechanical construction documents for accuracy, constructability, and code compliance Perform HVAC system design, equipment selection, and load calculations Coordinate with Project Managers to meet project budgets, schedules, and milestones Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior designers Ensure compliance with local, state, and national building codes Uphold VP Engineering’s core values of
integrity, professionalism, responsiveness, and respect What We're Looking For
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET-accredited) 5+ years
of HVAC system design experience for commercial and/or multifamily buildings Strong technical knowledge of: Heat gain/loss calculations (Manual J, Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP, or similar) HVAC and plumbing equipment selection Ductwork and piping design Hydraulic calculations International Building Codes and applicable standards
Proficiency in
AutoCAD and/or Revit Experience with HVAC load calculation and psychrometric analysis tools Ability to interpret construction documents, codes, and technical specifications Why VP Engineering?
