Our departments include furniture, flooring, fireplaces, kitchen & bath design, granite & quartz countertops, building brick and stone, BBQ grills, and outdoor living supplies.
POSITION OVERVIEW Benson Stone Company is seeking a motivated design consultant to join our Fireplace and Outdoor Living departments. This is a commissioned position, ideal for candidates with aesthetic vision, a strong grasp of technical concepts, and excellent people skills. You will manage the entire lifecycle of custom fireplace and outdoor kitchen design: from the initial design consultation and material selection to technical specifying, renderings, and closing the sale.
This is an inside sales role where the customers come to you; there is no cold‑calling required. You will be part of a lean sales team working within our high‑traffic showroom, engaging with a steady stream of interested clients and established partners. In this role, you will be working with both retail customers and builders/contractors, providing product recommendations, design & technical guidance, and exceptional customer service from initial consultation through project completion.
This is a full‑time position, working five days per week with Sundays and one weekday off. Candidates must be available to work Saturdays from 9AM to 4PM. Benson Stone Company is closed in the evenings, on Sundays, and on most major holidays.
QUALIFICATIONS No fireplace experience? No problem. We provide comprehensive technical training. If you’re a quick learner with strong people skills, design skills, and a “technical” mind, we want to talk to you.
Outgoing, self‑motivated, and professional demeanor

Strong follow‑up skills and attention to detail
Excellent customer service and relationship‑building skills
Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills
Strong aptitude for learning and applying technical and mechanical concepts
Comfortable with computers and general math
Experience using POS systems or CRM software preferred
RESPONSIBILITIES
Guide customers through product selection by clearly explaining features, benefits, and options
Build and maintain relationships with retail clients, builders, and contractors
Conduct in‑home consultations to measure spaces and assess technical requirements
Develop custom design concepts and visualizations/renders (hand‑drawings, SketchUp, AutoCAD, or similar)
Provide accurate quotes for complex projects involving multiple trades (masonry, carpentry, gas‑fitting)
Collaborate with installers to ensure the “as‑built” matches the “as‑designed”
Coordinate installation projects and timelines with customers and trade partners
Deliver a consistently high level of customer service before, during, and after the sale
Operate POS system to process sales, update customer information, and manage transactions
Visit customer homes for on‑site consultations when necessary
