Overview The Executive Director of the General Accounting Center of Excellence (CoE) provides strategic leadership and enterprise governance over general accounting processes. This role is responsible for driving standardization, quality, efficiency, and compliance across the organization while enabling scalable growth and transformation. The Executive Director serves as a key accounting authority and partner to finance leadership, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
Define and lead the strategy, operating model, and roadmap for the General Accounting CoE
Serve as the enterprise owner of general accounting processes and standards
Act as a trusted advisor to the Segment Controllers and CFOs on accounting operations
Design and maintain a robust internal control environment for general accounting
Oversee enterprise month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities
Establish performance expectations, KPIs, and service-level agreements for accounting execution
Drive consistency, quality, and timeliness of journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals
Lead enterprise accounting transformation initiatives, including process redesign and automation
Champion the use of automation, analytics, and technology to improve efficiency and scalability
Build, lead, and develop high-performing accounting teams within the CoE model
Establish clear roles, career paths, and development plans for accounting talent
Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence
Collaborate closely with FP&A, Treasury, and Operations to support business initiatives
Enable informed decision-making through reliable, high-quality financial information
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles
Deep expertise in US GAAP and internal controls
Proven success leading large-scale accounting process improvements
Preferred Qualifications
CPA is preferred
Prior leadership of an Accounting CoE, Shared Services, or global accounting function
ERP leadership experience (SAP, Oracle)
Experience operating in complex, multi-entity environments
Education
Bachelors degree
Pay Range The Typical Pay Range For This Role Is $131,500.00 - $303,195.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
