Occasional in-office attendance should be expected. Zurich North America is hiring a Commercial Property Claims Handler to join our team. We are open to candidates in Schaumburg, IL; Atlanta, GA; Parsippany, NJ; New York, NY; Gold River, CA; or Addison, TX. Responsibilities
Handle single and multi-party personal or commercial line claims of low to moderate exposure and complexity within specific limits of authority, following established protocols to ensure efficient, customer-centric claims service. Document claims files by accurately capturing and updating claims data in compliance with best practices. Exercise judgment to determine liability by gathering and analyzing relevant facts, utilizing applicable law, and establishing basic negligence principles. Determine policy verification and coverage by analyzing applicable coverage and assessing whether the loss falls within coverage. Develop case strategy and evaluation, escalate issues as appropriate, and strive for timely resolution of claims. Establish timely reserves and perform ongoing review throughout the claims cycle within authority limits. Assess damages and calculate applicable damages or ranges allowed by law. Negotiate settlements by formulating an appropriate strategy and using available tools within authority limits. Meet quality standards by following best practices and ensuring customer service through proactive communication and adherence to customer protocols. Manage expenses by working with vendor-approved networks and supervising the scope of work of outside contractors; depart from approved vendors with manager approval when in the insured’s best interest. Ensure legal compliance by following state and federal laws, regulations, and internal control requirements. Refer claims to subrogation and fraud teams by identifying potential subrogation and fraud indicators. Contribute to profitable growth by providing risk insights, information, and trends to the Business Unit or customer as needed. Protect Zurich’s reputation by keeping claims information confidential. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, staying current with industry trends, and engaging in professional societies. Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and 6 or more years of experience in the Claims and/or Litigation Management area, OR Juris Doctor and 2 or more years of experience in the Claims and/or Litigation Management area, OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice, including an Associate Degree with 6 or more years of experience in the Claims and/or Litigation Management area, OR Completion of Zurich Claims Training Program and 6 or more years of experience in the Claims and/or Litigation Management area, OR High School Diploma Equivalent and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims and/or Litigation Management area, AND Must obtain and maintain required adjuster license(s) Microsoft Office experience Knowledge of insurance regulations, markets and products Preferred Qualifications
Commercial property claims experience International claims handling experience Effective verbal and written communication skills Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem solving skills Solid time management, prioritization and multi-tasking skills Experience collaborating in a team environment and building cross-functional working relationships Adept at identifying and explaining complex financial and/or actuarial concepts Ability to determine the scope and exposure for moderately complex claims Understanding of the reserving process for indemnity and expense in analyzing potential exposure of moderately complex claims Ability to develop and execute negotiation strategies for resolution Ability to identify subtleties in customer, client, and/or business partner interactions Ability to present information necessary to propose a claim resolution to stakeholders Your pay at Zurich is based on role, location, skills, and experience. We follow local laws to ensure fair compensation. You may be eligible for bonuses and merit increases. If your expectations are above the listed range, we still encourage you to apply—your unique background matters to us. The pay range shown is a national average and may vary by location. The proposed Salary range for this position is $75,800.00 - $124,100.00 with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 15%.
