Job Description
We are seeking a talented SolidWorks 3D Modeler Mechanical Designer who specializes in design for manufacturing (DFM). The ideal candidate will prepare assembly, subassembly, parts, weldments, and piping systems models, along with design and shop drawings. A strong working knowledge of GD&T, ASME Y 14.100 Drawing Standards, and PDM is essential. Candidates with experience in creating products that have progressed through manufacturing will be highly regarded.
Responsibilities
+ Create and modify detailed drawings using CAD hardware and software from sketches, layouts, or notes provided by engineering.
+ Contribute design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or improve product quality.
+ Check drawing plots against project input to ensure correctness and conformance to standards.
+ Collaborate with design engineers on model accuracy, design, drafting standards, and ECN/ECR documentation.
+ May assist with system management tasks including file maintenance, backup, and storage.
+ Design major segments of complex subsystems and create 3D models of parts and assemblies using SolidWorks 2023.
+ Apply knowledge of materials, finishes, welding, and other manufacturing processes to drawings.
+ Perform form, fit, and function verification, and participate in design reviews.
+ Work closely with engineers and manufacturing personnel to ensure design aspects are understood.
+ Serve as a liaison with operations during the fabrication of parts to resolve design issues and update drawings.
+ Perform tolerance analysis on mating parts to ensure proper fit, applying knowledge of GD&T standards.
+ Technically direct work and check drawings of lower-level drafters, providing CAD software expertise for problem-solving.
Essential Skills
+ Advanced skills in 3D solid modeling and drafting using SolidWorks software.
+ Advanced skills in 2D drafting using AutoCAD, SMAP 3D, or DraftSight software.
+ Advanced knowledge of conventional engineering drawing practices per ASME Y14 standards.
+ Intermediate knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5.
+ Intermediate knowledge of machining operations and shop practices.
+ Familiarity and working knowledge of PDM file manager SW.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Knowledge of PDM would be a plus.
+ Experience with the nuclear TerraPower IVTM program would be advantageous.
+ Ability to work within concept to manufacture environments.
+ Capability to integrate and package electro/mechanical enclosures.
+ Willingness to work overtime and be available for evenings and weekends when necessary.
Work Environment
This role is onsite at a vibrant campus featuring an onsite cafeteria, gym, and hair salon. Core working hours are from 9 AM to 3 PM, with flexibility for some to work from 6 AM to 3 PM or 7 AM to 4 PM. The work environment is supportive and offers long-term project stability with great career progression opportunities.

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $60.00/hr.
