
Position Summary
The Builders Risk Underwriter is responsible for underwriting, pricing, and managing Builders Risk insurance policies for construction projects of varying size and complexity. This role evaluates construction risks, determines appropriate coverage terms, and partners with brokers, agents, and internal stakeholders to deliver profitable growth while maintaining underwriting discipline.
What will your job entail? Job Responsibilities
Underwrite and analyze residential and commercial Builders Risk submissions, including new business, renewals, and endorsements
Evaluate construction project details such as project type, construction methods, materials, values, timelines, locations, and risk exposures
Determine appropriate pricing, terms, conditions, deductibles, and coverage structures in accordance with underwriting guidelines and authority levels
Assess risk quality using engineering reports, loss history, CAT exposure, and financial strength of insureds and contractors
Collaborate with brokers and agents to gather required information, and provide underwriting guidance
Ensure compliance with company underwriting standards
Support business development efforts by maintaining strong broker relationships
Required Qualifications
Proven knowledge of underwriting experience preferably in Builders Risk, Construction, or Property insurance
Solid understanding of risk assessment, pricing, and loss analysis
Excellent analytical and decision-making
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in underwriting systems and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Work and Education Qualifications
Minimum 1+ year of experience in underwriting, administrative support or customer service roles in insurance industry is preferred.
Bachelor’s degree preferred
License and Certifications
2-20 license

The target hourly rate range for this position is $23.00 - $28.92 per hour.
The wage range for this role considers many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs, and market demands. The pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Full-time roles are eligible for bonuses and benefits.
