This position will be a key role within the Company’s accounting department specific to our royalty division and will have responsibilities for revenue accounting functions. This role is an active participant and management role in the day-to-day revenue accounting of the organization. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter capable of working independently with good decision-making skills. Must be knowledgeable in various aspects of oil and gas non-operated revenue accounting and capable of interacting with individuals throughout the organization. The Revenue Accounting Manager reports to the Corporate Accounting Manager and will oversee the revenue department.
Responsibilities
Responsible for overseeing monthly revenue processing and reporting
Accurately record and recognize revenues in accordance with established accounting principles US GAAP and internal policies. Ensure that transactions reflect the actual production, sales, and contractual terms for oil, gas, and related products
Ensure all revenue-related policies and procedures are documented and followed
Ensure compliance with Sarbanes Oxley and internal control processes and monitoring procedures
Collect, validate, and analyze large volumes of production, sales, and pricing data
Act as point of contact with internal and external auditors
Responsible for the month end accruals and revenue reporting close processes
Monitor and assist with reporting and collection of missing revenue. Responsible for the preparation of monthly volumetric reporting
Maintain a close working relationship with Production, Land and Reservoir departments
Prepare schedules and footnotes for annual and quarterly SEC filings
Lead all efforts as it relates to integration of revenue for acquisitions and divestitures
Present monthly accrual vs actual reports to various departments and upper management
Review monthly general ledger reconciliations
Identify and communicate areas for process improvements including automation and inter/intra departmental workflows
Mentor, coach, and develop team members along their career path and coordinate the training of new team members
Other responsibilities and reporting as assigned by management
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
Minimum ten (8+) years of experience in oil & gas with knowledge of revenue and general ledger accounting, especially non-operated revenue accounting
Five (5+) or more years of experience in similar role
Working knowledge of the various departmental activities in an oil and gas company (predominately the land department) and their interface/integration with accounting
Experience with revenue accrual concepts
Experience with month end, quarterly and annual closing procedures
Proven ability to build and maintain positive and effective relationships across teams and various levels in the organization, including management, colleagues, and auditors
Ability to work in a fast-paced and changing environment
Experience with SAP
Strong analytical skills
Experience in workflow optimization, implementation of automation solutions, and adoption of new reporting technologies
Ability to suggest and implement process improvements to increase effectiveness while ensuring SOX compliance
Communication skills to effectively work with all levels of an organization
Flexibility to grow and adapt with company needs
