Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our growing Commercial D&O team. We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Underwriter to join our D&O team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing risks, underwriting D&O insurance policies, and developing tailored insurance solutions for our clients. The ideal candidate is motivated to build and manage a book of profitable business while contributing to product development and special projects as requested. This individual must be a savvy, ambitious team player with a strong marketing persona.

Responsibilities

Underwriting & Risk Evaluation

Underwrite primary and excess Commercial D&O

Analyze:

Liquidity and cash runway

Debt structure, capital markets transactions

Corporate governance

Capitalization Table

Stock volatility and trading volume

Sector‑specific exposures (biotech, tech, fintech, energy, etc.)

Assess risks related to:

Securities class action (SCA) frequency

M&A vulnerability

Going‑concern language

Restatements and regulatory investigations

Make pricing and coverage decisions aligned with guidelines and loss trends.

Portfolio Management

Maintain a profitable, diversified portfolio of risks across industries.

Implement portfolio controls including attachment strategies, retentions, and co‑insurance.

Partner with Actuarial and Claims to monitor emerging trends in small‑cap litigation.

Broker & Market Engagement

Build strong relationships with brokerage community (retail and wholesale)

Negotiate terms and conditions in a competitive market while maintaining underwriting discipline.

Represent the carrier at broker meetings, industry events, and insured presentations.

Internal Collaboration

Collaborate with Claims on frequency/causation trends

Collaborate with Actuarial on pricing models

Collaborate with Legal on manuscript wording

Collaborate with Product on appetite refinement

Collaborate with other Bowhead product lines for cross marketing opportunities

Contribute to guideline updates to reflect market changes.

Qualifications

3–7 years of Commercial D&O or Financial Lines underwriting experience.

Strong knowledge of public company financial metrics, governance practices, securities litigation trends, and sector‑specific risk indicators.

Proven ability to manage broker relationships and negotiate terms effectively.

Proficiency in financial analysis and comfort underwriting complex risks.

Strong communication, presentation, and relationship‑building skills.

Bachelor’s degree required; CPCU, RPLU, or related credential a plus.
