
Overview
The Securities Based Lending (SBL) Advisor is a seasoned professional role in supporting the delivery of the SBL product across the Americas region for Citi Private Bank. This role requires strong technical and communication skills, with an ability to support client engagement, deliver SBL financing solutions, and drive growth of the SBL business. The position involves applying in-depth disciplinary knowledge, contributing to the development of new techniques and the improvement of processes and workflows for the area or function. A solid understanding of the SBL‑Securities Based (or Lombard) Lending business is required, along with practical experience in structuring and knowledge of industry products/services. Awareness of relevant legal and regulatory features in the region is important.
The Advisor evaluates complex and variable issues with substantial potential impact, weighing various alternatives and balancing potentially conflicting situations using multiple sources of information. Strong analytical, communication and diplomacy skills are required. The role includes informal/formal leadership within teams and coaching of new recruits.
The SBL Advisor collaborates with the Global SBL business head and regional teams to support the implementation of strategic priorities, ensuring alignment and efficient execution for clients. The position requires the ability to work independently on assigned tasks and contribute to regional SBL initiatives.
Responsibilities
Marketing and sale of the SBL Product range through preparation of materials and maintenance of databases.
Partner with Generalist Lending Advisors on origination activity and collaborate with Global Market Managers and Bankers to support client relationships and ensure high‑level client service.
Contribute to annual planning and budget processes.
Assist in the execution of regional SBL business strategies, including client engagement, communication plans, and training materials for Bankers.
Support relationships with key senior‑level clients and liaise with external UHNW client teams as a product specialist and advisor. Act as a technical resource to provide appropriate SBL solutions to clients.
Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring compliant business processes and audit readiness.
Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and Citi policies.
Collaborate with Bankers and leadership to support optimizing return on capital for the Firm.
Develop internal relationships and act as a proactive partner with the business.
Collateral evaluation covering marketable securities, both liquid and semi‑liquid asset classes.
Assist in the oversight of appropriate transaction structuring and execution, ensuring compliance with Credit Policy and Risk Acceptance standards.
Contribute to maximizing revenue generation and ensuring responsible lending growth.
Ensure adherence to firm‑wide credit standards and policies, contributing to quality work delivery and appropriate workload management.
Problem recognition and assistance with classified loans remedial management.
Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm’s reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
Qualifications
3‑5 years of relevant experience in financial services, preferably in SBL or a related lending product.
Demonstrated strong analytical, communication (written and verbal), and problem‑solving skills.
Solid understanding of SBL products, lending principles, and financial markets.
Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a dynamic environment.
Proactive approach to tasks and ability to deliver effective outcomes.
Bachelor’s/University degree.
Education Bachelor’s/University degree or equivalent experience.
