We are currently seeking a skilled Property Claims Specialist to join our team, handling commercial property and engineering/construction claims while contributing technical expertise across additional lines of business as needed. This role includes ongoing professional development in advanced commercial property and engineering claims handling.
Location: Chicago, IL or Remote
Responsibilities
Investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and resolve commercial property and engineering/construction claims, leveraging independent adjusters and specialized experts as necessary.
Independently resolve claims on reasonable terms and at accurate values within assigned authority.
Manage and control the use, costs, and work product of independent adjusters and external experts.
Analyze policy coverage on both standard and manuscript forms, independently identifying and evaluating coverage issues.
Identify and pursue subrogation recovery opportunities.
Prepare timely and accurate reports for management on significant or severe losses; maintain consistent communication regarding complex claim developments.
Provide exceptional service and availability to insureds, brokers, and HDI colleagues both domestically and internationally.
Share claims insights and lessons learned across departments, serving as a technical resource when needed.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
5+ years of direct experience handling commercial property and/or engineering claims.
Proficiency in claims handling, coverage analysis, correspondence, and negotiations.
Appropriate state adjuster licenses preferred, with willingness to obtain additional licenses as required.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong customer service orientation.
Strong contract interpretation skills and the ability to navigate complex policy language.
Effective organizational and time-management skills.
Knowledge of direct insurance and/or reinsurance business.
Proficiency with computers and the Microsoft Office Suite.
Additional Requirements
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Willingness to travel as needed.
Eligibility to work in the United States.
Compensation The base salary range for this position is
$90,000-$110,000 , plus eligibility for a performance-based annual bonus. Actual compensation will be based on a variety of factors including experience, education, and location.
