Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department of Athletics exists to provide educational and athletic opportunities to student-athletes and to support a premier intercollegiate athletic program.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Sr. Associate Athletic Director, CFO, the Assistant Athletic Director for Financial Reporting serves as the lead financial reporting officer and controller for a $180+ million Division I athletics department. This position provides strategic oversight of all accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and business processes to ensure accuracy, compliance, and strong fiscal stewardship. Responsibilities include managing financial systems and directing preparation of required external reports (including the NCAA Financial Report and Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act (EADA)); leading the annual budget process and long-range financial planning; partnering with athletics units, campus finance leadership, and the Rams Club to monitor performance and provide clear financial analysis and guidance; and delivering timely, accurate, and actionable financial analyses and dashboards to support executive decision-making. The role also supports oversight of the department’s personnel budget, metrics, and compensation reporting; leads the financial strategy and scenario modeling; coordinates internal and external audits; and provides actionable insights to athletics and university leadership. This role may assist in the review, tracking, and reporting of revenue share payments to student-athletes.
Minimum Education and Experience
Minimum
of a bachelor’s degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with at least 1 year of experience in relevant independent instructional or educational activities; specific minimum experience is at the discretion of the Director of Athletics.
Qualifications
Required
Master’s degree in business administration, accounting, sport administration, or similar field. Substantial experience with financial systems, reporting, analysis and forecasting. All degrees must be from fully accredited institutions.
Preferred
Experience in an intercollegiate environment (preferably NCAA Division I); knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations; experience counseling athletic department leadership on financials; ability to analyze trends and assist leadership in decision-making; knowledge of University, state, federal, ACC and NCAA compliance regulations; background in sport administration is helpful.

Ability to manage a fast-paced, high-volume work environment; attention to detail; ability to present clear, concise presentations to large and small groups; may be exposed to weather conditions; travel may be required; evening, night and weekend work required.
