General Description Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation for Recreation, the Marketing & Outreach Coordinator is responsible for leading the department’s marketing and community outreach efforts. This position develops engaging digital and print content and maintains social media platforms, website updates, bulk email communications, surveys, and other outreach tools to keep the community informed and connected with department programming and initiatives. In addition, this position represents the department at community events and outreach activities and supports administration of the department’s volunteer program. The role also oversees implementation of the sponsorship program, helping to build partnerships that enhance Parks & Recreation services and community experiences.

Assists in the development and implementation of marketing and outreach campaigns that promote department programs, events, facilities, parks, public lands, and related initiatives.

Creates engaging content and designs marketing materials including brochures, flyers, newsletters, graphics, presentations, and advertisements for print and digital use.

Manages and coordinates department social media platforms by developing content calendars, publishing posts, monitoring engagement, and responding as appropriate.

Produces photo and video content by visiting programs, events, parks, facilities, and project sites to visually document and promote department services and experiences.

Supports website content management by maintaining accurate, timely, and user-friendly information on the City and department webpages.

Develops and distributes digital communications including email newsletters, announcements, and promotional messages to participants and the community.

Assists with marketing for community engagement initiatives, including public input meetings, surveys, and outreach events.

Represents the department at community outreach programs and events such as National Night Out, Conservancy Talks, and other engagement opportunities.

Collaborates with department staff across divisions to identify promotional needs and ensure consistent messaging about programs, services, and projects. Coordinates with the City’s Communications Manager on communications and marketing to align department messaging with City’s strategic communication efforts.

Conducts basic market research and monitors community trends, audience demographics, and communication preferences to inform marketing strategies.

Tracks, analyzes, and reports on marketing and social media performance metrics to evaluate effectiveness and guide future efforts.

Explores and recommends new and innovative digital communication tools and strategies to expand community reach and engagement.

Assists in the development of seasonal recreation guides and other major publications by coordinating content, photos, and advertisements.

Supports administration of the department’s volunteer program and assists with recognition and promotional efforts related to volunteer engagement.

Assists with the implementation and promotion of the department’s sponsorship program and other partnership initiatives.

Completes special projects and other job duties as assigned or required.

Minimum Education and Experience

Graduation from an accredited college with an associate degree in marketing, communications, business, or a closely related field.

A minimum of one (1) year of experience in marketing, communications, outreach, or a closely related field.

Access to personal or public transportation for job-related duties.

Other Qualifications

Experience with Meta, Canva, Hootsuite, or other communication software.

Bilingual/Multilingual skills.

Knowledge

Working Conditions and Physical Demands A regular, Monday‑Friday, 40‑hour work schedule is required for this position. Attendance at evening meetings and events will be occasionally required. Remote work opportunities may be available with supervisor approval.

Work is performed primarily in an office environment with occasional travel to meetings, work sites, or other locations.

Work will involve contact with the public, requiring effective communication and professional conduct.

Work may involve exposure to stressful situations, deadlines, or conflict resolution.

Work requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, bend, stoop, and lift objects up to 20 pounds.

Work requires extended periods of standing or walking.

Work will involve operating standard office equipment (computer, telephone, copier, etc.).

Vision and hearing are required to perform essential functions and communicate effectively.

Work will require climbing, operating equipment, or working in confined spaces.

Full‑time status means the employee is regularly scheduled for, and working, 30‑40 hours per week.
