Role Overview
We’re seeking a Landscape Designer / Sales Associate to lead residential landscape projects from initial client conversations through final design and installation. This role is ideal for a designer who enjoys both the creative and client‑facing sides of the work, understands how designs translate to the ground, and wants flexibility without management responsibilities outside of facilitating the installation of your projects.
This is a hybrid position, with approximately 80% remote and 20% onsite work. Success is measured by design quality, client satisfaction, and project conversions—not time spent at a desk.
Responsibilities
Meet with clients (virtually or on‑site as needed) to understand goals, budgets, and site constraints
Create clear, buildable landscape designs using CAD software
Produce professional color renderings that clearly communicate design intent
Demonstrate a solid understanding of grading, drainage, and site functionality in design solutions
Run material take‑offs and prepare accurate quantity‑based estimates for review prior to client submission and approval
Present designs confidently and guide clients toward installation
Facilitate the installation of your projects by coordinating with internal/external teams and contractors
Maintain organized project documentation, estimates, and timelines
Qualifications
Minimum 2‑3 years professional landscape design experience required with portfolio of completed projects
Proficiency with CAD drafting and color rendering tools
Possess comprehensive knowledge of woody and perennial plants suitable for Minnesota
Strong understanding of grading and drainage principles
Comfortable selling design services and installation projects
Excellent communication and client‑facing skills
Self‑motivated and able to work independently in a hybrid work environment
Values & Experience That Stand Out
LA, APLD or MNLA Certification
Passion for and knowledge of sustainable landscape practices
Experience designing and selling native plant material
Ability to balance creativity with practical, buildable solutions
Company Overview Green Slate Design is a Minnesota‑based landscape design and build firm focused on the artful integration of nature and science. We create outdoor environments that are thoughtful, functional, and enduring—spaces that enhance how people live, gather, and connect with the land. Our work is rooted in clear communication, user‑centered design, and sustainable practices, with a strong emphasis on buildability and real‑world performance. As a lean, design‑driven company, we value autonomy, accountability, and craftsmanship over hierarchy and bureaucracy. We’re a place for designers who want creative ownership, meaningful client relationships, and the satisfaction of seeing high‑quality ideas become well‑executed landscapes.
