to lead the organization’s quality assurance and safety functions, ensuring alignment with ISO 9001 standards and compliance with industry and regulatory requirements.
This role involves strategic oversight of quality and safety programs, continuous improvement initiatives, and fostering a company-wide culture of safety and excellence. As a senior leader, the Director of Quality and Safety collaborates with cross-functional teams, senior management, and external stakeholders to drive long-term quality and safety goals aligned with organizational objectives.
Job Description
Quality Program Management
Develop and execute a comprehensive quality strategy to maintain companywide ISO 9001 compliance and ensure alignment with organizational objectives
Lead the implementation of quality management systems (QMS) across the organization, with a focus on the ISO 9001 standard
Lead and coordinate companywide audits (internal and external), certifications, and quality assessments to drive compliance and improve operational efficiency
Analyze performance data and lead corrective actions to address quality issues, driving proactive improvements
Maintain an internal quality document library
Represent Valkyrie with various industry quality associations
Safety Program Management:
Set and lead safety strategies, policies, and standards to maintain a safe working environment and ensure regulatory compliance
Lead risk assessment and hazard analysis initiatives, setting benchmarks for safety and compliance with OSHA requirements
Champion a proactive safety culture, providing strategic guidance on emergency preparedness, safety training, and incident management
Manage and maintain the companywide OSHA 300 Log and OSHA 300A Summary for recordable incidents
Serve as the lead for accident investigations
Provide safety training on a variety of topics
Manage relationships with regulatory bodies, staying updated on compliance requirements and incorporating them into company policies
Maintain an internal safety document library
Represent Valkyrie with various industry safety associations
Serve as the lead for local environmental permits, as appropriate
Serve as the lead on all environmental inquiries
Represent Valkyrie with various industry environmental associations
Continuous Improvement and Innovation:
Drive a culture of continuous improvement, utilizing Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies to enhance quality and safety processes
Analyze data to identify trends, measure program effectiveness, and recommend strategic improvements
Partner with senior leaders to implement ISO-aligned best practices across departments, ensuring operational excellence and continuous improvement
Team Leadership and Development:
Collaborate with corporate and line departments to align quality and safety initiatives with organizational goals and employee engagement
Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:
Communicate quality, safety, and environmental priorities, progress, and successes to senior leadership and other stakeholders
Develop partnerships with external stakeholders, such as suppliers, regulatory agencies, and industry associations to strengthen quality and safety outcomes
Ensure clear, effective communication of quality and safety expectations across the organization
Qualifications
Must have a Bachelor’s of Science degree in quality management, safety engineering, industrial engineering, or a related field with five years’ experience; OR ten years’ experience in quality and safety leadership roles, with substantial experience in an ISO-compliant environment
Must have a proven track record in strategic planning, quality management systems, and safety program leadership
Must have In-depth knowledge of ISO standards (e.g., ISO 9001), OSHA, EPA regulations, and continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma)
Working knowledge of OSHA regulations (1910-General Industry, and 1915-Maritime)
Working knowledge of Army Corps of Engineers Safey and Health Requirements Manual, EM-385-1

For example, Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Environmental Professional (CEP)
Security Requirements
Must have a Secret Security Clearance, or able to obtain one within 2 months from hire date
Must be a US citizen.
Travel Requirements
Minimal, 10%-15% annually.
Physical Requirements
Normally assigned to perform work in an office environment.
Occasional job sites visits, during which paint fumes, welding, and other shipboard or shore-based hazards may be present.
Minimal mobility, dexterity, or coordination required to operate common business machines.
Minimal lifting, working in confined spaces, or working aloft may also be required
