Mount Airy Downtown, Inc. is seeking a
Community Engagement Manager
to support downtown marketing and communications, business outreach, community connection, and signature events. This role helps tell the story of downtown, build strong relationships with local merchants and partners, and support the planning & execution of community events that bring people together.
What You’ll Be Up To Marketing & Communications
Create engaging promotional content for events, programs, & downtown initiatives
Help tell the story of downtown in a way that feels warm, authentic, & community-driven
Business Outreach & Engagement
Build & maintain relationships with downtown merchants
Gather feedback, share updates, & encourage participation in events & programs
Distribute promotional materials & keep open, friendly lines of communication
Community Connection
Represent MAD at meetings, events, & community gatherings
Listen, observe, & help translate community needs into action
Jump in on special projects related to downtown revitalization, placemaking, & economic vitality
Event Support
Assist in planning, promoting, & executing signature downtown events like Sunday Supper, Mayberry Food Truck Fest, Market Street programming, & more
Support day-of event management — on the ground, problem-solving, & keeping things moving
You’re a natural people-person & love building relationships
You’re organized, proactive, & comfortable juggling a few things at once
You enjoy both planning & showing up
You care deeply about community, local businesses, & downtown spaces
You don’t mind some evenings & weekends
Experience in community engagement, nonprofits, events, or marketing is great — but heart, curiosity, & hustle matter just as much
Bilingual (English/Spanish)? Amazing. Not required, but definitely a plus
