Senior Associate AD for Marketing and Fan Engagement or Senior Associate AD for External Relations
Position Overview The University of North Texas Athletics is seeking a dynamic, strategic, and innovative leader to serve as the Senior Associate AD for Marketing and Fan Engagement or Senior Associate AD for External Relations. This senior leadership role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of marketing, brand management, fan experience, game presentation, and external engagement for UNT Athletics. The position drives engagement, revenue growth, enhances brand visibility, and builds lasting connections with fans, students, alumni, donors, and the Denton/North Texas community. Reporting directly to a supervisor on the UNT Athletics Executive Leadership Team, the Senior Associate AD will collaborate closely with communications, creative services, ticketing, revenue generation, Greek Life, Student Affairs, UNT Spirit and Band, and other Athletics, campus, and Denton community leaders to advance the overall mission and vision of UNT Athletics and create an engaging, exciting, and championship‑caliber environment that inspires pride and loyalty among Mean Green supporters.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and five years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proven track record of developing and executing successful marketing campaigns that drive attendance, revenue, and brand growth.
Strong understanding of digital marketing tools, social media strategy, data analytics, and emerging trends in fan engagement.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and build relationships with stakeholders.
Knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and regulations, as well as best practices in collegiate athletics marketing and fan engagement.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and travel as required for events and game days.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in a relevant field.
Experience managing budgets, licensing agreements, and corporate partnerships.
Prior experience in game presentation/production and in‑venue fan experience enhancement.
Experience working in a university or community‑focused setting.
Job Duties
Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all traditional and digital marketing initiatives, including campaign development, promotions, advertising (including digital advertising), and brand positioning for UNT Athletics.
Manage and elevate the UNT Athletics brand through consistent messaging, visual identity, and storytelling that resonates with audiences.
Lead game presentation and in‑venue fan experience efforts, including script development, entertainment, video board production, in‑game promotions, and atmosphere enhancement to create memorable events.
In partnership with various units in Athletics, help develop and execute comprehensive fan engagement strategies to increase attendance, season ticket sales, single‑game attendance, and overall fan loyalty across all sports.
Oversee community engagement and outreach programs to strengthen ties between UNT Athletics and the Denton community, surrounding North Texas region, alumni, and corporate partners.
Direct student engagement and marketing efforts, including targeted campaigns to boost student attendance, spirit, and involvement with Mean Green athletics.
Assist in managing licensing, trademark usage, and brand compliance in coordination with university and external partners.
Foster strong cross‑departmental collaboration with communications (PR and media relations), creative services, ticketing, revenue generation/sponsorships, and other units to ensure integrated strategies that support departmental goals.
Supervise, mentor, and develop a high‑performing team of marketing, fan engagement, game presentation, and related staff members, interns, and student workers.
Analyze data and metrics (attendance, engagement, social/digital performance, revenue impact) to inform strategy, measure success, and drive continuous improvement.
Contribute to long‑term strategic planning for UNT Athletics, including revenue forecasting, budget management for marketing areas, and alignment with university priorities.
Represent UNT Athletics at campus, conference, and community events, and serve as a visible leader in advancing the Mean Green brand.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission of UNT Athletics.
