The Role Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes computer‑aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as CAD, CAM, NX, or CATIA. Gathers information, conducts studies, performs calculations, and prepares original rough layouts and sketches to present a design proposal. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning groups to ensure ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications. Excludes classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments.
This position is intended for the Reactor Plant Fluids group in Department E70. The incumbent will be responsible for supporting the development of other designers within the group, process/check multiple types of drawings, and performing/checking 3D product model work (to include developing/checking 3D Design Disclosures). This position regularly communicates with other discipline designers/engineers across all departments within the Ford Class program.
Must Have Associate's Degree and 6 years of relevant experience.
One of the following may be used as equivalent to an Associate's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:
NNS Apprentice School graduate
Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
High School/GED and 2 years of related manufacturing, shipbuilding, trades, military experience
High School/GED and 4 years of non‑related manufacturing, shipbuilding, trades, military experience
Nice to Have
Strong mechanical routing skills in NX and proficiency with Teamcenter
Basic understanding of how a reactor plant functions
Ability to read, develop, and check system diagrams, pipe detail drawings, hanger detail drawings, arrangement drawings, weld maps, and standard/special fitting drawings
