Latitude Outdoors is seeking a Senior Soft Goods Gear Designer to lead the design and development of our next generation of soft goods products — including packs, harnesses, accessories, and technical gear. This is a high-impact role for a creative, technically proficient designer who thrives in a fast-paced, hands‑on environment. You will own the design process from concept through production, collaborating closely with our Pattern & Prototyping Engineer, sourcing, and leadership to bring innovative products to life. This role will report directly to the Chief Engineering & Design Officer while supporting the execution of the product roadmap and strategy defined by the Chief Product Officer.
Key Responsibilities
Own end-to-end design of soft goods products from concept through production
Create sketches, renderings, digital prototypes, and tech packs
Collaborate with patterning, sourcing, and engineering teams to ensure manufacturability and performance
Lead continuous improvement initiatives advancing implementation of state‑of‑the‑art technical fabrics, components, and construction methods.
Conduct user research and field testing to inform design decisions
Present concepts and final designs to leadership and cross‑functional teams
Maintain high standards of design, fit, and quality across all products
Support seasonal line planning and product roadmap development
Evaluate, select, and implement the primary soft‑goods design tools for the team, establishing scalable workflows and best practices
Train and support team members (e.g., Pattern Engineer) in the use of selected design tools and documentation standards
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in soft goods or technical gear design
Strong portfolio demonstrating concept development and execution
Strong expertise in at least one major soft‑goods 3D design platform (Blender, CLO, Browzwear, Rhino, Fusion, or equivalent)
Strong expertise in at least one 2D design platform (Adobe Illustrator, or equivalent)
Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud is a plus, not a requirement
Experience creating tech packs and working with overseas factories
Deep understanding of materials, construction, and fit
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Passion for the outdoors and familiar with user‑centered design principles and methodologies
Location & Work Format This role will be based at our headquarters in Grand Rapids, MI. The expectation is to be onsite in our design studio for a minimum of 3 days per week. Remote focus work for enhancing personal productivity can be leveraged 1‑2 days per week where appropriate. Experienced candidates can be provided with up to 6 months of remote work before transitioning to Grand Rapids to allow for an earlier start date.
Base salary negotiable based on experience
Performance‑based bonus 15% of base salary
401(k) with 4% company match
80% cost coverage of medical, dental & vision insurance
Relocation stipend available
