Senior Assistant Golf Course Superintendent
McArthur Golf Club is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to support daily maintenance operations on The Backyard, one of the club’s two championship golf courses.
This position is heavily focused on crew leadership, daily scheduling, and precise irrigation management to consistently deliver fast, firm, and championship‑level playing conditions. The Senior Assistant will work closely with the Director of Agronomy and Superintendent and is viewed as a key leadership position within the agronomy team, designed to prepare the successful candidate for a future Superintendent role.
Club Highlights
Maintenance Budget: $3.5 million (per course)
Total Annual Rounds: Approximately 14,000–15,000 with minimal outings
Total Staff: 30 staff members per course (60 total across the club)
Typical Work Schedule:
When scheduled weekend off: early departure Thursday with full weekend off
Turf Types:
Celebration Bermudagrass fairways
TifEagle greens
Irrigation System: Rain Bird Cirrus Pro (installed in 2022)
Equipment: Predominantly Toro; mostly leased
Future Projects: Renovation of the Frontyard golf course beginning this summer

Initial Priorities Of Position
Build relationships and gain trust with the maintenance team
Learn the golf course, agronomic standards, and McArthur’s maintenance philosophy
Gradually assume responsibility for job board setup and daily scheduling
Learn and take ownership of nightly irrigation programming and water management
Key Responsibilities, Knowledge, Skills, And Aptitude
Schedule, lead, and manage a large maintenance crew on a daily basis
Execute nightly irrigation programs to optimize turf health and playability
Monitor weather, soil moisture, and course conditions to adjust water use accordingly
Assist in implementing agronomic programs and daily maintenance practices
Train, supervise, and develop staff while maintaining high standards of accountability and safety
Communicate effectively with the Director of Agronomy and Superintendent regarding course conditions and operational needs
Provide leadership coverage in the absence of the Superintendent as needed
Uphold McArthur Golf Club’s commitment to excellence and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
3-5 years of progressive golf course maintenance experience
Certificate, Associate degree, or Bachelor’s degree in a turf‑related field (preferred, not required)
Additional experience may be considered in lieu of formal education
Experience with irrigation setup and advanced water management preferred
Florida experience helpful but not required
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $85,000–$100,000, based on experience

2 weeks starting in year one, increasing to up to 4 weeks after 5 years
