
Position Summary
The Designer 2 is responsible for designing plans for the quoting and production of floor and roof trusses used in residential, multi-family, and commercial construction projects. Ensures drawings are produced accurately and timely based on blueprints provided by customers. Requires the knowledge of commonly used framing concepts and practices within the construction industry. A strong belief in the mission and goals of the company and the capability of working in a team environment are necessary for this position.
Duties / Responsibilities
Read and interpret blueprints
Develop and design wall panel, floor/roof truss concept drawings
Ensure conformance to all relevant building requirements and municipality building codes, if applicable
Interpret and confirm design requirements as indicated by procedures, design manuals, and other applicable specifications
Generate layouts for final construction
Ensure designs are accurate, optimized, and conforms to standards
Willingness to assist with training of new associates
Demonstrate a commitment to the quality improvement process and the philosophy of continuous improvement; identify and respond actively and with sensitivity to the needs of all customers; participates as a team player in all phases of the organization; and is open and responsive to change.
Comply with all company policies and procedures
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required
Experience in designing residential, multi-family, commercial, custom and production wall, floor and roof trusses
General computer knowledge
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
Experience with MiTek and/or equivalent truss design software
Ability to read and comprehend blueprints
Attention to detail, takes pride in quality of work
Efficient and able to complete assignments within a given deadline
Knowledge of standard construction practices, codes and carpentry
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Communicates effectively with team members
Strong team work ethic
Education and Qualifications
Associate degree in a relevant field*preferred, plus 3 years of experience**
*Education substitution: 2+ years of exact experience, 4 years of similar experience
**Experience: Knowledge of commonly used framing concepts and practices within the construction industry.
Physical Requirements Sitting or standing at a computer for long periods of time. Occasional visits to local job sites.
Travel Requirements Occasional travel may be required.
