
The Communications Specialist is responsible for supporting the development and execution of internal and external communications initiatives that boost the visibility of the firm and its attorneys. Reporting to the Director of Marketing & Communications, the Communications Specialist will create and distribute content for use across all platforms, including the external website, intranet, social media, promotional brochures, and media pitches. This individual will also assist with drafting surveys and award submissions and with facilitating thought leadership opportunities.
The Communications Specialist is expected to perform all responsibilities with a commitment to providing superior client service to internal and external constituents while maintaining an atmosphere of teamwork and collegiality and producing high-quality work product.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop content to support communications and marketing efforts, as well as drive engagement and raise brand awareness, including highlighting our cases, culture, and recruiting and DEI efforts across offices. Ensure distribution of that content through appropriate communications channels, such as press releases, award entries, firm website and intranet content, and social media posts. Working with the Director, identify, assess and coordinate conferences, seminars, forums, sponsorships, and speaking and writing opportunities to ensure they are aligned with the goals of the firm, offices and practices. Provide hands-on support for thought leadership-related webinars and seminars, as well as other BD/Comms-related events. Ensure that marketing materials are updated regularly and appropriately reflect practice group experience and expertise. Assist with media monitoring process, track article and commentary placements, and produce daily media clips reports. Assist with drafting the firm’s external submissions for legal directories, awards, and surveys, working with lawyers and practice leaders to draft nominations, and promote award wins. Draft/review bios, press releases, social media posts and announcements. Communicate regularly with internal stakeholders on the status of projects, including distributing firm news and media hits to appropriate individuals and teams. Proactively contribute to broader BD/Comms plans for specific projects, events, and thought leadership initiatives as needed. QUALIFICATIONS
Excellent writing and communication skills, including strong grammar, punctuation and spelling skills, and an ability to translate technical and industry-specific information into clear, compelling content. Strong work ethic and client service orientation. Commitment to professional growth and development. Ability to prioritize and manage workload, work independently and as a member of teams, and complete tasks under time pressure as necessary. Ability to maintain poise, tact and professionalism when interacting with internal and external contacts. Strong computer skills including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint are essential; experience with Adobe InDesign is preferred. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to learn new skills as they become necessary. Ability to function in a collaborative organization and be a team player. Enthusiasm and flexibility to work on other activities and projects as needed. Knowledge of AP Style. EDUCATION AND /OR EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a marketing-related field. 5+ years of related marketing/business development experience, preferably in a law firm.
