Reports to: Dean of Students

Salary: $37,300/year, non‑negotiable

Position Summary Mountwest Community & Technical College is seeking a dedicated and detail‑oriented Financial Aid Counselor to assist students and their families in navigating the financial aid process. This position is responsible for counseling students on financial aid eligibility, processing aid applications, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent customer service skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to student success.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Guide students and families through the financial aid application process, including FAFSA completion, verification, and loan counseling.

Evaluate and process student financial aid applications, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all regulations.

Interpret and apply federal, state, and institutional policies related to financial aid programs, including grants, scholarships, loans, and work‑study.

Conduct outreach activities, workshops, and presentations on financial aid topics for students, parents, and staff.

Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of financial aid policies and best practices through ongoing professional development.

Resolve student issues related to financial aid disbursements, overpayments, and appeals.

Collaborate with all of student services team members and other departments to support student retention and success initiatives.

Maintain accurate financial aid records and assist with audit preparation as needed.

Serve as the main front line financial aid counselor in the one stop student services.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Education: Associate’s degree (Bachelors preferred) in a related field (e.g., Business, Finance, Higher Education, or a relevant discipline).

Experience: Prior experience in financial aid, student services, or a related area in higher education is preferred.

Skills

Strong knowledge of financial aid regulations and procedures.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
