
We are seeking aFire Protection Systems Designerto support the design, estimating, and coordination of fire protection and life safety systems. This role works closely with engineering, project management, and field teams to design code-compliant systems, perform site surveys, assist with project estimating, and prepare complete submittal packages for approval by Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
The ideal candidate has a strong technical background, hands-on fire protection experience, and the ability to collaborate in a team-oriented office environment while occasionally working in the field.
Responsibilities and Duties
Design fire protection and life safety systems using AutoCAD, including floor plans, riser diagrams, isometrics, and system layouts
Design and assist with estimating fire alarm, fire sprinkler, and/or kitchen suppression projects
Perform quantity takeoffs and support proposal pricing under the direction of the Engineering Manager
Conduct site surveys to verify existing conditions, field dimensions, and constructability
Interpret architectural, structural, and MEP drawings to develop coordinated system designs
Prepare and review rough sketches and design concepts with internal design teams
Identify potential code, constructability, or operational issues and recommend design solutions
Assist with system calculations, equipment spacing, and manufacturer requirements
Collect and organize equipment data sheets and manufacturer documentation
Compile California State Fire Marshal (CSFM) listings for applicable fire alarm equipment
Assist in assembling complete submittal packages for AHJ review and approval
Maintain and update drafting templates, design standards, and engineering libraries
Communicate with architects, engineers, contractors, sales staff, inspectors, and end users
Support multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
Provide design and drafting assistance to engineering and project teams as assigned
Qualifications
Associate’s degree or higher (Engineering, Drafting, Construction Technology, or related field)
Minimum 1 year of experience using AutoCAD in a professional setting
Experience in fire alarm, fire sprinkler, kitchen suppression, or other fire protection systems (design and/or installation) Preferred
Ability to perform project estimating and quantity takeoffs
Ability to perform site surveys and field verifications
Ladders and working on man lift when required
Valid driver’s license cleans driving records is capable to our insurance.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Strong math and measurement skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Detail-oriented and highly organized
Ability to work independently and within a team-based office environment
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Office-based role with occasional field work
Access ceilings, and operate or work from man lifts
Ability to travel locally to job sites for site surveys and coordination
Starting Pay: $20
