Job Summary/Description The Associate Director of Facilities Management oversees campus building maintenance operations, supervises skilled trades staff, manages maintenance and small construction projects, supports university events, and ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulations.
Typical Duties/Job Duties
Lead, coordinate, and supervise building maintenance staff, including carpenters, painters, electricians, and other skilled trades.
Plan, schedule, assign, and oversee maintenance and minor construction work to maximize efficiency, productivity, and facility reliability.
Prepare work orders, instructions, and project priorities; ensure staff have needed tools, equipment, and supplies.
Assist with university events by providing facilities-related support when needed.
Conduct monthly building inspections to identify maintenance needs and evaluate staff performance.
Provide training, guidance, and safety oversight to ensure work is completed efficiently and in compliance with codes and regulations.
Coordinate and oversee contractor activities on building maintenance and construction projects.
Prepare cost estimates, materials lists, and procurement requests for maintenance-related supplies and tools.
Develop sketches and plans for small renovation or remodeling projects; meet with faculty, staff, and students to confirm project scope, schedules, expectations, and deadlines.
Assist with budget preparation, monitor expenditures, and support the development of deferred maintenance and R&R schedules.
Ensure equipment logs, records, operation and maintenance manuals, and other documentation are organized and maintained accurately and in a timely manner.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of general building maintenance principles, construction practices, and related building codes.
Knowledge of electrical, painting, and carpentry processes and procedures.
Knowledge of the proper use of tools, equipment, and materials related to building maintenance.
Knowledge of hazards, safety precautions, and regulations required for safe maintenance operations.
Knowledge of effective employee supervision, training practices, and workflow coordination.
Knowledge of applicable University policies and procedures.
Ability to effectively plan, organize, coordinate, and supervise the work of maintenance staff.
Ability to read, interpret, and apply information from operation and maintenance manuals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents.
Ability to operate all tools and equipment necessary for carpentry and general building maintenance with proficiency.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in building construction, business, engineering, or a related field preferred; relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Two years of supervisory experience in the maintenance or construction of public or other large buildings.
Valid Texas driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to the University’s insurance provider.
Successful completion of a background check.
