
Job Description
The Purchasing Agent will be responsible for supporting a fast‑paced structural steel fabrication operation by sourcing competitive quotes, issuing and managing accurate purchase orders, and ensuring timely delivery of materials to meet project schedules. Tracks orders, coordinates logistics, maintains office and shop supplies, and collaborates with accounting to ensure invoice and PO accuracy while supporting overall operational efficiency.
Minimum Starting Salary:
$18.00 - $20.00 per hour Hours:
Monday - Thursday 7:45am - 5:15pm & Friday 8:00am - 3:00pm Essential Functions
Utilizing current and potential suppliers to obtain competitive quotes for a fast‑paced structural steel fabricator. Preparing, issuing, and managing purchase orders, ensuring accuracy in specifications, quantities, pricing, and delivery instructions. Tracking order status, expediting deliveries when needed, and coordinating logistics to align with project schedules. Ordering and maintaining supplies for both office and shop requirements. Collaborating with the accounting department to verify the accuracy of invoices and purchase orders. Performs other job duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Basic understanding of record keeping. Detail oriented and proactive approach. Ability to multi‑task and work under time constraints. Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Consistently meet all deadlines. Withstand pressure and adapt to change. Proactive and anticipate needs before they arise. Conflict resolution and problem‑solving skills with the ability to work through complex negotiations with tact. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a customer‑oriented approach. Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Two years of experience in purchasing; prior steel industry purchasing experience is preferred. Tekla experience is preferred. Physical Demands
Sedentary; predominantly operates within an office setting. Occasionally moves materials or equipment weighing up to 25‑50 pounds.
