Underwriter Opportunity

We seek an experienced underwriter to join our growing FAIRCO team in our New York City office. FAIRCO is a subsidiary of TransRe Holdings, a Berkshire Hathaway company. This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape and grow a dynamic MPL portfolio by leveraging and cultivating strong broker relationships. In this role, the senior underwriter will drive high-quality medical malpractice submissions, strategically underwrite profitable business, and contribute to sustainable growth that enhances overall company performance. The ideal candidate combines strong industry relationships, market insight, and underwriting expertise to shape strategies. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Underwriting healthcare business in accordance with company underwriting guidelines ensuring sound risk selection and enable profitable growth for the portfolio. Building and maintaining strong relationships with wholesale and retail insurance brokers to deliver customized insurance solutions for diverse healthcare accounts. Partnering with internal teams to drive growth in mental healthcare segment and identify opportunities in additional healthcare classes. Monitoring MPL market trends and jurisdictional developments while executing targeted marketing initiatives to maintain competitive positioning, create new business opportunities, and strengthen FAIRCO's leadership in the market. Collaborating with Claims, Product Leadership, and Actuarial teams to design and price customized insurance solutionstailoring limits, coverage, and terms for complex risks requiring flexibility. Promoting company products through marketing efforts, travel, and participation in industry conferences. Requirements include: 8+ years of experience underwriting medical professional liability on excess and surplus lines (E&S) Proven track record of managing relationships and leveraging established connections with wholesale & retail broker markets Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills RPLU designation, a plus Ability and willingness to travel for client and broker engagement. Work Schedule: TransRe is supportive of an agile work schedule, which may differ based on individual roles, your local office's practices and preferences, marketplace trends, and TransRe's business objectives. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule. Compensation: In addition to base salary, for this position, TransRe offers a comprehensive benefits package, paid time off, and incentive pay opportunity. The anticipated annual base salary range in New York for this position, exclusive of benefits, paid time off, and incentive pay opportunity is $140,000 $180,000. This range is an estimate, and the actual base salary offered for this position will be determined based on certain factors, including the applicant's specific skill set and level of experience.
