Job Summary

The Tax Managing Director, Private Client & Family Office Services (PCS-FOS) provides overall direction and oversight for the PCS-FOS Practice, including business development, practice development and client management. The role collaborates with firm leadership on overall approach to ensure consistency with overall firm philosophy. The Managing Director leads and reviews the results of financial and advisory services, is involved in supervision, problem solving, and scheduling client projects to appropriate personnel. Additionally responsible for developing and mentoring PCS-FOS management and staff.

Client Service Delivery

  • Oversee the full‑life cycle of all assigned engagements, providing technical expertise in finance and accounting
  • Identify opportunities for technological and process improvements, construct business cases, develop technical arguments, and persuade leadership on adopting new approaches
  • Facilitate discovery meetings with large and complex clients, using open‑ended questions to identify their objectives and financial information
  • Design integrated solutions for large and complex clients, avoiding locking into a single solution and identifying when services outside PCS‑FOS are needed
  • Determine the cost of building out a solution, calculate benefits, use the pricing process, and propose fixed‑fee based on scope
  • Advise client leadership on technical accounting issues, financial policies and procedures, and financial management issues
  • Periodically review solutions with clients to ensure alignment with current business state and communicate future vision
  • Lead clients through business changes and facilitate change‑management process
  • Maintain strong relationships and understand tax planning considerations for various business entities, and refer tax related matters to Core Tax and Specialty Tax Services

Business Development

  • Achieve business‑development goals through strategy and service offerings targeted for various industries
  • Maintain sales pipeline and enter prospect data into CRM
  • Participate in roadmap and strategic planning process
  • Develop compelling proposals and negotiate contract terms
  • Evaluate client risk and approve statements of work
  • Leverage relationships with firm colleagues and BDO Alliance partners to pursue opportunities
  • Cross‑sell to existing clients and identify new prospects

Developing Others

  • Foster a culture of change and accountability
  • Train team members to perform analytics and forecasting
  • Provide career advice and professional growth opportunities
  • Evaluate performance and set goals aligned with firm objectives
  • Monitor staffing levels and manage resources

Practice Management & Administration

  • Lead the practice area, set goals, define projects, and delegate appropriately
  • Ensure timely billing and collection, monitor practice metrics
  • Understand practice P&L and financial metrics
  • Create strategic plans aligned with firm objectivesAccurately scope new projects and develop fee estimates
  • Monitor Net Promoter Scores and improve client service
  • Review engagement economics and adjust for continuous improvement
  • Manage practice lifecycle from forecasting to collections

Research

  • Identify when research is needed and report findings
  • Develop research methodology for engagement teams

Strategy Development

  • Develop new or improved ideas to reduce client taxes or expenses
  • Present complex strategies to clients and prospects when required

Other Duties

  • Travel up to 25% of the time
  • Other duties as required

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Guide and supervise all PCS‑FOS personnel

Education & Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance and 10+ years of general accounting experience, or 12+ years of accounting experience without a degree.

Preferred: MBA or advanced accounting degree.

Experience

  • At least 6 years of supervisory experience
  • Consultative or business advisory experience
  • Experience with outsourced or delivery center operations (preferred)

License/Certifications

  • CPA certification (preferred)

Software Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online (QBO), Microsoft NAV, Bill.com, SEI Archway, Qvinchi (preferred)
  • Prior experience with accounting research tools (preferred)

Salary Range

  • National: $130,000 - $225,000
  • Maryland: $130,000 - $225,000
  • NYC/Long Island/Westchester: $130,000 - $225,000
