Overview

Director, Industrial Safety Products (LiDAR)

We are a high-growth LiDAR technology company building next-generation digital sensors used in industrial automation, robotics, precision mapping, automotive, security systems, smart infrastructure, and advanced machine perception. Our products are engineered to deliver high-resolution imaging at scale, with a modern digital architecture that dramatically reduces complexity while improving performance and cost.

We are hiring a Director of Industrial Safety Products to lead the strategy, execution, and customer success of our industrial safety portfolio. This role is equal parts product leadership, technical authority, and cross-functional program ownership. Your focus will be simple and demanding: make our LiDAR-based safety solutions the most trusted, easiest to integrate, and easiest to certify in safety-critical environments.

The Opportunity

Industrial safety is not won through specs alone. Customers need real evidence, clean documentation, repeatable testing, and interfaces that reduce integration risk. In this role, you will ensure our products do not just align with standards like IEC 61508 and ISO 13849 , but deliver the artifacts, tooling, and engineering support that help customers get machines approved, deployed, and operating safely.

What You Will Lead

  • Industrial safety product strategy: Own the long-term roadmap and near-term execution plan for our safety-focused LiDAR offerings.
  • Cross-functional delivery: Coordinate teams across firmware, hardware, safety engineering, systems engineering, documentation, and customer-facing functions.
  • Customer certification enablement: Ensure customers have the data, documentation, and interfaces required to meet their own regulatory and compliance obligations.
  • Standards-driven productization: Translate complex machine safety requirements into clear, testable product features and deliverables.

Core Responsibilities

Portfolio Ownership and Roadmap Execution

  • Own the end-to-end product roadmap and requirements for industrial safety solutions, including:
    • Zone monitoring and protective field applications
    • SOTIF (Safety of the Intended Functionality) considerations for perception systems
    • Industrial communication protocols and safety interfaces
    • Safety-related accessories and integration components
  • Act as the primary internal stakeholder driving safety features from early concept through customer-ready release.
  • Remove execution blockers, align priorities across teams, and ensure delivery timelines are realistic and met.

Safety Engineering Enablement for Customers

  • Partner directly with strategic customers and key accounts to help architect safe systems using LiDAR sensing.
  • Ensure integration documentation is exceptional, including Safety Manuals, user guides, interface descriptions, and integration workflows.
  • Champion clarity and usability in customer-facing materials so system engineers can integrate with minimal ambiguity.
  • Represent the voice of the customer in engineering tradeoffs, ensuring safety deliverables match real-world certification needs.

Testing Leadership and Compliance Readiness

  • Oversee the testing strategy required for machine safety and perception safety use cases, including alignment with standards such as:
    • IEC 61496
    • IEC 62998
    • ISO 3691-4 and ISO 3691-5
  • Define what test evidence, datasets, and validation results customers need to support regulatory approvals beyond baseline functional safety.
  • Ensure testing outputs are structured, traceable, and usable in customer safety cases and technical files.

Interface and Integration Excellence

  • Drive industrial protocol strategy and product readiness for safety-critical deployments.
  • Collaborate with firmware teams on integration features involving safety communication systems and industrial networking.
  • Ensure product interfaces, tools, and documentation reduce integration time and reduce the risk of misconfiguration.

What We Are Looking For (Required Qualifications)

  • 8+ years of experience in engineering leadership within industrial automation, robotics, sensing, machine perception, or safety-critical systems.
  • Deep familiarity with functional safety standards, including IEC 61508 and ISO 13849.
  • Working knowledge of machine safety standards, including IEC 61496.
  • Strong understanding of the difference between SIL and AgPL, and how these impact design, documentation, and customer adoption.
  • Technical fluency across hardware, firmware, and system integration, with the ability to engage in detailed discussions on industrial safety protocols.
  • Customer-first mindset, with a clear understanding that the product is only successful if customers can certify and deploy their systems confidently.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to oversee high-quality technical writing and present complex safety topics to both executives and on-site engineering teams.

Why This Role Matters

This position sits at the intersection of product strategy, engineering execution, and real-world safety deployment. You will shape how LiDAR becomes a trusted component in safety-rated machines and autonomous industrial systems. If you enjoy turning complex standards into real, shippable product value, and you want to lead work that directly impacts how people and machines safely operate together, this is a rare opportunity to do it at scale.
