Reporting to the VP of Legal, this role will serve as Director, Senior Commercial Counsel, Healthcare and be a key member of Oura’s Legal Team. The role will partner closely with the Commercial, Science and Product teams and other cross-functional leaders to support Oura as the company grows and scales.

Preferred location is San Francisco Bay Area, remote candidates will be considered.

What You’ll Do

  • Review, draft and negotiate complex healthcare partnership and government contract deals as the lead attorney supporting the Commercial Healthcare and Government Contracting functions of the business.
  • Counsel and advise stakeholders on legal issues impacting the business, ensuring alignment, efficiency, and excellence in execution of all healthcare transactions and government contracts.
  • Serve as a strategic thinker who operates to shape company-wide risk strategy while driving key initiatives and applying a solutions-focused approach.
  • Operate as a hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves practitioner, comfortable managing complex transactions.
  • Build and refine internal transactional processes, policies, and tools that can scale efficiently with company growth.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior executives, providing clear, business-oriented judgment and actionable recommendations.

Requirements

  • Has 8-10 years combined law firm and in-house experience, with at least 4 years of experience as a dedicated transactional healthcare attorney and at least 2 years of government contracting experience.
  • Deep working knowledge of U.S. healthcare regulatory frameworks, including HIPAA/HITECH, the Anti-Kickback Statute, and the Physician Self-Referral Law (Stark), and the ability to apply them pragmatically to business objectives.
  • Exceptional drafting skills, including experience negotiating and preparing sophisticated commercial, clinical and strategic healthcare agreements and government contracts.
  • Experience advising on government contracting matters, including agreements involving federal and state agencies.
  • Proven ability to identify and mitigate regulatory risk while enabling scalable, innovative healthcare business models.
  • Strong judgment and comfort operating as a trusted advisor to senior business stakeholders in a fast-moving environment.
  • Clear, practical communicator who can translate complex legal issues into actionable guidance.
  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and current active license to practice law in California.
  • Excels at working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Pay ranges and location

Oura takes a market-based approach to pay. US locations are categorized based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. These ranges may be modified in the future.

  • Region 1 $200,600 - $236,000
  • Region 2 $182,750 - $215,000
  • Region 3 $164,900 - $194,000
