
The Senior Director of Human Resources Operations is a key member of the Human Resources leadership team responsible for leading, integrating, and optimizing the operational functions of the HR department across Berkshire Health Systems and leading and supporting key HR initiatives. Reporting to the Chief Human Resource Officer, this role ensures that HR programs and services support organizational goals, regulatory compliance, and positive employee experience. The Senior Director oversees Compensation Administration, Benefits Compliance, Talent Acquisition, Workers Compensation, and Staff Education. The role provides strategic direction, operational excellence, and data-driven insights to ensure consistent, efficient, and high-quality HR service delivery across the health system.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
- Partner with the CHRO and HR leadership team to develop and implement HR operational strategies aligned with system priorities and workforce goals.
- Lead process improvement and technology initiatives to streamline HR service delivery, enhance efficiency, and improve employee satisfaction.
- Serve as a strategic advisor on compensation, benefits, recruitment, and workforce trends.
- Ensure integration and coordination between HR functional areas and other departments across the organization.
HR Operations
- Oversee HR Shared Services operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness in employee transactions, data management, and HR systems.
- Drive continuous improvement and standardization of HR policies, procedures, and workflows.
- Utilize HR analytics and metrics to evaluate performance, identify trends, and support strategic decision-making.
- Partners with CHRO in the development and implementation of key HR initiatives.
Compensation & Benefits
- Direct the administration of compensation programs, ensuring market competitiveness, internal equity, and compliance with legal requirements.
- Oversee benefits compliance and plan design, including health, welfare, and retirement plans.
- Support the design and communication of total rewards programs that enhance employee engagement and retention.
Talent Acquisition
- Lead system-wide recruitment strategies to attract and retain a diverse, high-performing workforce.
- Oversee recruitment operations, workforce planning, and metrics to meet staffing goals efficiently and effectively.
- Collaborate with department leaders to forecast talent needs and implement creative sourcing strategies.
Workers’ Compensation
- Oversee administration of the Workers Compensation program, ensuring compliance, effective case management, and cost containment.
- Collaborate with Occupational Health, Risk Management, and Safety teams to promote injury prevention and safe return-to-work practices.
Staff Education
- Lead the Staff Education Department to ensure effective onboarding, compliance training, and professional development for all employees.
- Partner with operational and clinical leaders to align education and training programs with system priorities and accreditation requirements.
Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Maintain oversight of HR audits, reports, and data integrity within the HRIS and related systems.
- Oversee policy development and ensure consistent application across entities.
Experience and Professional Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive HR leadership experience, including at least 5 years in a senior management role in a healthcare or large, complex organization.
- Demonstrated experience overseeing multiple HR disciplines (Compensation, Benefits, Recruitment, HR Operations, Training, or similar).
- Strong background in HR technology, analytics, and process improvement.
- Track recordof building partnerships across disciplines and driving organizational performance through collaboration and accountability.
- Deep knowledge of employment and benefits law, compensation practices, and HR systems.
- Proven ability to lead diverse teams and drive performance through influence and collaboration.
- Proven ability to drive organizational change anda reputation as a champion of change who is skilled at getting individuals and teams to work synergistically.
