Position: Resident Camp Executive Director

Position Summary

The Resident Camp Executive Director provides strategic and operational leadership for all aspects of camp, including:

  • Year-round operations and program development
  • Property, land, and facilities management
  • Financial stewardship and budget oversight
  • Staff recruitment, development, and supervision
  • Risk management and safety compliance
  • Fundraising, donor cultivation, and community engagement
  • Capital improvement planning and long-term sustainability

This leader ensures excellence in camper experience while maintaining and enhancing the physical assets entrusted to the YMCA.

About YMCA Camp Tippecanoe

Nestled on 600 acres in Harrison County and situated along Clendening Lake, YMCA Camp Tippecanoe has been serving youth since 1958. As a branch of the YMCA of Central Stark County, camp operates with an annual budget of approximately $500,000 and provides transformative residential camping experiences rooted in the YMCA's values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

Camp includes programming for youth ages 7-18 and features waterfront activities, equestrian programming, high ropes adventures and other outdoor adventure features.

Salary Range: $60,000-$65,000 (commensurate with experience)

  • Includes onsite housing option

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred
  • 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in resident camp, outdoor education, or related field
  • Demonstrated experience in facility and land management
  • Strong financial acumen and budget management experience
  • Experience leading diverse teams and developing emerging leaders
  • Knowledge of risk management and regulatory compliance
  • Fundraising and community partnership experience preferred

Key Responsibilities

Strategic & Operational Leadership

  • Develop and execute a long-term vision for camp growth and sustainability
  • Lead seasonal and year-round staff teams
  • Strengthen off-season utilization and revenue diversification
  • Lead and strengthen the Camp Advisory Board to serve as active ambassadors and strategic partners
  • Engage board members in fundraising, capital planning, and community connection efforts

Property & Facilities Stewardship

  • Oversee maintenance and improvement of all facilities, waterfront, trails, and infrastructure
  • Develop and manage preventative maintenance plans
  • Collaborate on capital improvement planning
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, ACA, Praesidium, and regulatory standards

Financial & Administrative Management

  • Create and manage annual operating budget and financial performance
  • Monitor revenue streams and expense controls
  • Lead fundraising efforts and donor engagement

Team & Culture Leadership

  • Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing staff
  • Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and belonging
  • Model YMCA values in leadership practice
