Director of Data Analytics (Snowflake Required | Upstream Operator Required)
Location: Downtown Houston, TX (100% On-site)
Job Type: Full-Time | Permanent
Work Authorization: No visa sponsorship now or in the future
Engagement: W2 only (no C2C / no third-party vendors)
About the Role
We are seeking a business-facing analytics leader to build and lead an enterprise analytics function for a fast-moving upstream oil & gas operator . This role is focused on delivering measurable outcomes—standardized metrics, trusted reporting, and decision support—across drilling, completions, production operations, and corporate stakeholders.
This position has two non-negotiables:
- Hands-on, production experience with Snowflake as the core analytics data platform.
- Recent upstream oil & gas operator experience .
The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguity, drives adoption (not just dashboard delivery), and can partner effectively with Operations and executive leadership—especially in environments shaped by transformation and M&A integration.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and lead the enterprise analytics strategy and roadmap aligned to upstream priorities (drilling/completions/production, reserves, LOE, capital efficiency).
- Partner with Asset/Ops leaders and corporate stakeholders to identify high-impact use cases and deliver analytics that drive action and measurable performance improvement.
- Deliver executive-ready insights and narrative—translating complex data into clear recommendations.
- Establish KPI definitions, metric ownership, and reporting standards to eliminate “multiple versions of the truth.”
- Build an analytics operating model (intake/prioritization → delivery → QA → release/change management) that improves speed-to-value and stakeholder satisfaction.
- Drive governed self-service analytics through enablement, training, and certified datasets/semantic layer patterns as appropriate.
Snowflake Analytics Platform Enablement (Required)
- Lead analytics enablement on Snowflake , ensuring curated, analytics-ready datasets and consistent consumption patterns for BI and advanced analytics.
- Partner with data engineering/platform teams to improve Snowflake performance, reliability, usability, and cost awareness for analytics workloads.
Trusted Analytics (Pragmatic Governance)
- Ensure analytics outputs are reliable and auditable through strong definitions, data quality monitoring, and documentation/lineage practices needed for trust and adoption.
- Collaborate with security and stakeholders to implement appropriate data access controls.
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing analytics team (analysts and/or analytics engineers), fostering accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement.
- Develop talent and elevate analytics maturity across the organization.
M&A / Integration Support
- Support integration initiatives by harmonizing reporting, KPI definitions, and analytics delivery across combined entities (Day 0 / Day 30–90 stabilization and rationalization).
Qualifications
- Snowflake (Required): Hands-on, production experience delivering analytics on Snowflake (building/operating analytics datasets/models, enabling BI consumption, and supporting analytics users).
- Upstream Oil & Gas Operator Experience (Required): Recent experience working in/for an upstream operator environment supporting analytics for drilling/completions/production (recent meaning current or within the last couple of years—not a short stint from many years ago).
- Analytics Leadership: 7+ years in analytics/data roles with 5+ years leading teams and stakeholder-facing analytics delivery.
- Strong SQL and strong experience with BI/reporting ecosystems (Power BI/Tableau or equivalent) and modern analytics delivery practices.
- Proven ability to drive adoption, standardize metrics, and deliver measurable outcomes (not just build dashboards).
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills; comfortable influencing senior Ops and corporate leadership.
- Bachelor’s degree in CS/IS/Engineering or related field (advanced degree/certs a plus).
- 100% on-site in downtown Houston .
- Fast-paced environment; occasional after-hours support during high-priority milestones (e.g., integration deadlines).
