The Structural Steel Senior Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for structural steel projects. This position involves analyzing project specifications, blueprints, and other documentation to produce detailed and comprehensive cost breakdowns. The Senior Estimator collaborates with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure estimates align with project goals and budgets.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in administration or engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Tekla PowerFab experience is a plus.

Minimum of five (5) years of related experience, preferably in Structural Steel/Metals estimating.

Working knowledge of engineering and design concepts in the structural steel industry.

Must have the ability to read and understand design drawings and 3D models.

Knowledge and experience of completing budgetary/conceptual estimates.

Basic math skills and technical writing skills required.

General understanding of material pricing for various steel shapes.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with all levels in the organization, customers, and vendors.

Must be able to deal with ambiguity and changing requirements while maintaining a professional attitude.

Strong sense of urgency and ability to work through bid process, addressing customer needs and requests, and balancing business needs.

Be decisive, fast‑paced, able to operate without heavy supervision, and be deadline driven.

Must have the ability and knowledge base to review other estimator’s work.

Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects of significant multi‑million‑dollar value.

Strong attention to detail; ability to multitask and manage time effectively.

Proven ability to effectively influence and motivate others.

Must be able to work in and encourage a collaborative environment and to perform positively in high conflict situations.

Proficient computer skills on Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Project Management Software, PDF editors, BlueBeam, and Tekla for Structural Steel Estimating

Develop effective working relationships, which foster integrity, trust, and respect.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Plans, organizes, directs, controls, and executes all activities related to the estimating function.

Lead the setup of the facility’s Estimating Department.

Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Work the entire life cycle of a bid from bid invitation to finalizing bid proposal for submission to customer.

Computes cost factors and prepare estimates used for management purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work, preparing bids, selecting vendors or subcontractors, and determining cost effectiveness.

Review construction documents, Site, Architectural and Structural Steel plans, specifications and understands scope of work to bid.

Prepares Itemized lists by reviewing data to determine material and labor requirements.

Consults with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.

Prepares scope of work along with all exclusions, clarifications, and conditions. Lists all bid documents with dates used in preparation of estimate.

Review Owner contracts and evaluate risks.

Work with budgetary/conceptual estimates.

Obtain pricing for materials and bids from subcontractors.

General understanding of structural metals detailing, fabrication, and erection.

Working knowledge in surface application

Consult with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.

Interface with others within the organization to obtain support and commitment to the cost estimates.

Inform the immediate supervisor of any observed inaccuracies or omissions in quoted items.

Attend departmental meetings and customer scope reviews as required.
