RSU5 DURHAM-FREEPORT-POWNAL Director of Transportation 2026-2027 District The Transportation Director provides effective leadership for all district transportation services, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant operations that support student learning. This role requires clear and professional communication with staff, students, parents, administrators, and the broader community. The Director interprets and administers local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies; ensures compliance with required safety training; and prepares and submits all required federal, state, and district reports. A commitment to continuous professional growth is expected through participation in workshops, meetings, and seminars.

The Transportation Director plans, organizes, and supervises all transportation personnel, including the mechanic, and is responsible for the selection, evaluation, and professional development of department staff. This position oversees the development and implementation of efficient bus and van routes; schedules transportation for athletics, field trips, and specialized needs; and manages the maintenance, inventory, and replacement of the transportation fleet. The Director prepares and administers the annual transportation budget, establishes inventory controls for supplies and equipment, coordinates the purchase of buses and vans, and manages procurement, bidding, and contracts with outside transportation vendors.

Start Date: July 1, 2026 Application closing date: Sunday, March 15, 2026 Requirements Minimum of five years experience in student transportation.

Successful experience in a supervisory role preferred.

Possess strong organizational skills as well as the ability to handle multiple projects professionally.

Experience with transportation routing software preferred.

Holds a valid State CDL license with School and Passenger endorsement or must obtain this endorsement within six months of hire.

Current Department of Education Criminal History Record Check Authorization (CHRC).
