Reporting to the VP, Engineering, the Automation Specialist will support the company's efforts in relation to the design, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of Automation and Controls systems for our air or liquid-cooled High-Performance Computing (HPC) Data Centers Job requirements Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline like Engineering, Computer Science, Automation Technology or technical training on a related field from a recognized institution or Certification in automation technologies from a reputable manufacturer (e.g. Siemens, Rockwell Automation or similar), combined with at least 2 years of experience in the automation field in an industrial setup. Sound understanding of control theory (e.g. PID loops, ON/OFF control with hysteresis, scaled inputs from separate control algorithms, etc.) Strong understanding of automation frameworks and tools plus proven hands-on experience with PLCs, SCADA systems, robotics or scripting languages like Python Proficiency in programming languages and coding, including but not limited to those related to PLCs and controllers, like Ladder Diagram, Function Block Diagram, Structured Text or Sequential Function Chart Knowledge of field devices, sensors and actuators (e.g. temperature, pressure, flow, vibration), their signal types and wiring methods for control and monitoring Knowledge of industrial networks and the different communication protocols used in them Excellent abstract thinking, as well as analytical and problem-solving skills Self-driven individual, with attention to detail and ability to execute high-quality work with limited direction Ability to deal comfortably with uncertainty and limited resources or information Other important requirements: Pre-employment screening, including background check and substance testing may be required according to company policies. Must provide own steel-toed work boots; other PPE will be supplied. Must be able to reliably commute to the work site daily or have plans to relocate before starting work. Job responsibilities The Automation Specialist will focus on the following as well as other job-related duties and/or projects as assigned. Act as point of contact for Controls and Automation regarding our High-Performance Computing data centers, ensuring that all the automation and control systems in charge of the company's air or liquid cooling systems are operating and performing as expected Interpret and maintain existing code as well as write and deploy new code for the company's PLC, controllers and SCADA fleet Support Engineering and site teams by helping troubleshoot control and automation issues that prevent or impair the proper or efficient operation and cooling of the computing equipment fleet Participate as necessary in any design, construction or commissioning efforts as part of the different projects life cycle Work with mechanical and cooling engineers to ensure proper system integration and equipment operation, making sure that changes in operational conditions and physical requirements are translated seamlessly into adequate control logic and programming. Follow proper Management of Change processes to ensure coding changes are safely deployed and provide accurate version management for all PLCs and control devices under the specialist's scope Work with IT and DevOps teams to make sure that field signals and information are properly provided into the company's enterprise and supervisory systems, allowing for a correct process monitoring and management of alarms In charge of any record files regarding control and automation, ensuring its completeness, accuracy and availability for consultation
