Overview

Under the general supervision of the Program Director, the Director of Nutrition is responsible for supervision of the nutritional care of clients as well as food service operations for PACE CNY. Responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the clinical nutritional needs/preferences/care of participants. Provides vision/leadership/direction to provide optimum nutritional support/education to participants/family members to enhance/support specific nutritional needs of each participant while incorporating cultural, religious, and life style preferences.

Responsibilities

Job duties specific to this position:

  • Supervises and evaluates nutrition staff in their nutritional assessment and care planning of assigned clients.
  • Develops goals for nutrition department that support corporate goals and initiatives.
  • Reviews new supplements on the market for nutritional appropriateness, cost effectiveness and client acceptance as needed.
  • Coordinates monitoring of meal service. Acts as liaison between food service contractor and PACE sites. Assists in developing and approves menus for PACE sites to assure nutritional adequacy. Oversees procurement of food.
  • Trains, evaluates, schedules, and supervises the Diet Technicians and Registered Dietitians. Evaluates and recommends allocation of staffing.
  • Administrator of Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
  • Coordinates/conducts in-service programs to PACE CNY staff and participants, which will improve their level of knowledge and skill regarding nutritionally related topics.
  • Keeps abreast of necessary developments in the field of gerontological nutrition and conveys this knowledge via nutritional education programs for participants and staff.
  • Directs all Nutrition Staff meetings.
  • Revises quality assurance and audit tools annually and as needed. In collaboration with quality assurance/performance improvement (QAPI) coordinator, completes quality assurance audits and develops and implements plans of correction as necessary; actively participates in QAPI and task forces as requested.
  • Reviews/updates Loretto’s Diet Manual annually; revises the nutrition-related Policies and Procedures as needed. Reviews policies and procedures annually.
  • Provides nutrition coverage as needed.
  • Responsible for keeping current with regulatory requirements and changes as mandated by regulatory agencies.
  • Complies with all State and Federal safety, health, and sanitary regulations.
  • Monitors budget line for department.
  • Act as a preceptor to dietetic students from area colleges/universities.
  • Participates in Participant Council meetings as needed.
  • Creates a plan of correction in the event of a nutrition deficiency from a Regulatory Survey.
  • Ensures compliance with national, regulatory, programmatic and individual standards.
  • Provides practical advice to assist participants in making health conscious decisions about food/preferences/life choices.
  • Assists Director of Site Operations as needed.
  • Takes administrative on-call rotation assignments and responsibilities.
  • Demonstrates adherence to all compliance policies and procedures. Is responsible for promoting and fostering compliance in the workplace.
  • Ensures the highest quality of care by performing responsibilities according to the highest professional standards.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of PACE/D&T​C Emergency Preparedness Plan and can verbalize their role during an event.

Qualifications

  • B.A. or B.S. in Dietetics from an ADA accredited academic institution.
  • Current registration as a dietitian is required.
  • Minimum 5 years of clinical experience in a health care setting necessary.
  • Minimum 5 years supervisory experience preferred.
  • Long-term care experience highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise clinical staff in their nutritional assessment and care planning of clients.
  • Proven ability to assess appropriate food safety and sanitation programs.
  • Working knowledge of team concept in providing care.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office and able to learn new programs rapidly.

An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.
