Community Outreach Coordinator, Department of AI and Society Position Title: Community Outreach Coordinator, Department of AI and Society

The Artificial Intelligence and Society (AIS) Department in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) at the University at Buffalo (UB) seeks to fill a Community Outreach Coordinator position. In this role, you will coordinate and support faculty, programs and events that promote and support AIS’ mission of community engagement, within the University at Buffalo Community, Western New York, New York State, and nationally.

Responsibilities

Build, maintain, and sustain relationships with communities and organizations (e.g., nonprofit, grassroots, advocacy, or other civil society organizations) in Buffalo, Western New York, and NY state.

Help AIS faculty members with the planning and logistics of research relevant community engagement work by organizing events that bridge AIS /UB/broader WNY community.

Facilitate the logistics of coordinating student projects (as part of the AIS capstone and other AIS courses) with community organizations.

Coordinate with other community engagement efforts and programs at UB while maintaining trust with AIS community partners.

Produce and distribute marketing materials for AIS program offerings, events, and information; organize outreach campaigns for student recruitment and retention.

Develop and build relationships with stakeholders across campus and in the community to collaboratively support a positive experience for students within the artificial intelligence and society program.

Supervise student assistants as appropriate.

Perform administrative tasks to support the department’s academic programs and operations.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate degree in related field with 2 years of experience or bachelor’s degree in related field with no experience.

Highly developed interpersonal, organizational, written, and oral communication skills.

Experience with Microsoft Office suite and Google Docs.

Strong understanding and experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

Existing relationships with community organizations in Buffalo and Western New York (and beyond) and/or knowledge of and experience with the Buffalo/Western New York regional political economy.

Experience working in or with nonprofit, grassroots, advocacy, or other civil society organizations.

Experience providing direct administrative support to high-level administrators.

Interest in artificial intelligence, technology outreach, or STEM‑specific initiatives.

Salary $51,261 - $54,000
