Communities In Schools of South Central Texas (CIS) is seeking a passionate, community-minded Sales Supervisor to join our team at the CIS Thrift Store. Our store plays a vital role in supporting local students and families, with proceeds directly benefiting Communities In Schools programs and services. Position Summary This full-time position offers up to 40 hours per week and requires open availability to ensure high-quality customer service and reliable store coverage. The Sales Supervisor is expected to demonstrate a strong work ethic and flexibility, including working both opening and closing shifts Tuesday through Saturday, as well as up to two Mondays per month as dictated by business needs. This role models the behavior and professionalism expected of a positive member of the thrift store team and maintains an elevated level of confidentiality consistent with store management responsibilities.
The Sales Supervisor supports the Store Manager in developing, implementing, and promoting approved sales plans. Key responsibilities include training, coaching, and developing store staff and volunteers; monitoring and analyzing sales data; and recording and reporting performance using designated tracking tools. This role leads, motivates, and supports volunteers and associates to achieve organizational sales goals.
Additional duties include handling internal and external customer concerns with respect, grace, and compassion; promoting the mission of CIS; and ensuring excellent customer service while maintaining clean, organized, and visually appealing displays. The Sales Supervisor takes initiative daily to foster teamwork, support smooth store operations, and drive revenue to benefit CIS of South Central Texas.
Tasks may include, but are not limited to: processing donations, stocking merchandise, researching and pricing high-value items, cleaning, merchandising and recovering the sales floor, and operating the cash register.
Essential Duties, Responsibilities, & Competencies The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Continuously train and model exceptional work ethic and knowledge for other associates and volunteers
Continuously display a positive and friendly attitude
Adhere to policies of the store and expectations set by management
Train new staff and volunteers in all aspects of their jobs and responsibilities at the store
Guide volunteers with tasks to be completed
Demonstrate appreciation for all volunteer's time/ work done
Have appropriate attire and language for a member of management in a thrift store environment
Maintain a culture of honesty, integrity, teamwork, respect, and compassion to all employees and volunteers
Consult and collaborate with management regularly to address issues and concerns, and to share and discuss ideas regarding marketing, pricing, and process improvements
Assist customers and clients with excellent service
Professionally resolve customer complaints and concerns in person
Ensure proper cash-handling processes are followed safely and responsibly
Handle cash from registers with minimal errors after training phase
Assist in the evaluation and process of donations with quality and speed to keep sales floor stocked as needed
Maintain a safe, clean and organized store for all customers, employees and volunteers
Make and receive phone calls in a professional manner
Research items of high value using Google images and Ebay
Demonstrate knowledge of daily sales, monthly discounts, and regular prices
Process vouchers with minimal errors and perform a review of all completed vouchers each week to check for accuracy. Follow up with staff as needed if corrections need to be made.
In partnership with the Store Manager, this position is responsible for posting to social media to highlight the daily sales, new items in stock, volunteer shout outs, staff appreciation pictures and other posts to promote the store and draw customers
Clean restrooms, take out trash, put away racks and carts
Help to load and unload furniture as needed
Ensure opening and closing procedures are being followed
Promote Super Shopper cards as well as the store’s social media accounts
Maintain an organized, sized, and colorized sales floor. Condense clothing racks as needed
Treat all customers, clients of CIS, employees and volunteers with respect and care
Communicate with Site Coordinators regarding clients/vouchers as needed
Know the mission and programs of CIS SCT and have a good understanding about how the thrift store contributes to the continued success of the CIS mission. Educate customers, employees and volunteers about these efforts
Attend Thrift Store Committee meetings and Staff meetings as needed
Attend trainings as needed from other departments
Responsible for providing directions to staff as needed regarding their daily assignments and following assigned daily shift assignment as applicable to your position.
Act in the best interest of the organization at all times
Requirements Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise Store Associates and store volunteers.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Previous Thrift/ Consignment/ Resell/ Retail experience of at least 2 years or more is required
Computer program skills with Square, SharePoint, Microsoft Word and Excel, Canva, and social media platforms
Exceptional people and customer service skills
Ability to adapt and make quick decisions for daily needs
Desire to work hard and make a difference
Required education and experience
High School Diploma or GED
Previous Thrift/ Consignment/ Resell/ Retail experience of at least 2 or more years
Preferred education and experience
Previous Thrift/ Consignment/ Resell/ Retail Lead or Supervisor experience preferred
