Responsibilities POSITION OVERVIEW Bonobos is seeking an Associate Designer with a strong understanding of Knitwear design, as well as yarn and stitch development. The Associate Designer contributes meaningfully to all steps of the Design process, with guidance from the Sweaters Designer. The ideal candidate works well cross-functionally with Technical Design, Merchandising, Production, and Sourcing to bring great product to life. They also offer support in preparing presentation materials for all design meetings, and works towards presenting Knits category independently. Researches latest trends within knitwear market, with ongoing communication with Designer to assist in daily tasks and collaborate on seasonal design development.
Key Responsibilities
Contribute strong and innovative ideas, and ability to create designs independently
Support Designer in the Sweaters category from concept through completion of the development process
Create and present big idea boards at concept/kickoff
Follow trends and have knowledge of competitors and aspirational brands for your category
Work closely with Designer and Director of Fabric R&D to source new yarns and fabrics seasonally
Contribute to seasonal sweaters stitch development
Communicate regularly with Merchant partners to gather input, share ideas and line development direction
Understand the needs of the business, balancing business strategy and creative innovation
Create and maintain tech packs and BOMs, communicate with Tech and Production teams, and work on follow-up issues
Attend fittings, take notes, and update sketches or BOMs post fitting. Work toward being able to lead fitting for your own category
Required Experience & Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Apparel Design, or Association's Degree in Apparel Design combined with several years of work experience in Sweaters
Experience: 2 - 4 years of full time professional Knitwear Design experience in either Men's or Women's
Strong understanding of fully-fashioned knitwear: gauges, yarn types and sizes, stitches, and garment construction
Positive mindset
Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks
Strong communication skills
Detail-oriented
Able to be adaptable and flexible with priorities of workflow
Have the ability to take ownership and work with manager
Able to work collaboratively with teammates
Eye for the brand and keen trend awareness
Excellent design and computer sketching skills
