
Construction Estimator

The Construction Estimator is responsible for calculating the type, quantity, and cost of materials and labor required for our construction projects. This role analyzes blueprints, specifications, and project plans to prepare accurate material takeoffs and cost estimates. The Estimator collaborates closely with project managers, engineers, suppliers, and subcontractors to optimize project budgets, manage bids, and reduce waste across multiple projects.
Key Responsibilities Takeoffs & Analysis
Review blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine precise material quantities and labor cost
Perform detailed quantity takeoffs to support accurate estimating and eliminate waste
Cost Estimation
Calculate comprehensive material costs, including labor, shipping, equipment and value engineering
Routinely track market pricing and adjust estimates
Vendor Management
Solicit, analyze, and compare quotes from suppliers and subcontractors
Assist with vendor negotiations and bid evaluations
Budgeting & Reporting
Prepare, update, and present cost and estimate reports
Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements
Coordination & Collaboration
Work closely with project managers, engineers, and suppliers to align estimates with project scope
Manage estimate revisions due to design or scope changes
Support multiple company projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
Develop and deliver presentations and proposals to internal teams and executives
Qualifications & Skills Technical & Analytical Skills
Ability to read and interpret civil designs, construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications
Strong mathematical and analytical skills for accurate cost calculations
Solid understanding of construction methods and documents
Software & Tools
Experience with estimating software and Microsoft Excel
Knowledge of CAD software preferred
Professional Skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Required Skills & Experience
Background in construction, engineering, or a related field
Experience in quantity surveying, material takeoffs, or project estimating
Knowledge of building codes, construction materials, and safety regulations
