The
Native American Student & Community Center
(NASCC) Assistant Director (AD) provides leadership to the NASCC and is responsible for the hiring, evaluation, and supervision of center staff. The AD manages the center’s daily operations, including public relations efforts and helping leadership with fundraising efforts and strategic initiatives. The Assistant Director ensures the NASCC remains a welcoming and inclusive space that celebrates and supports the success of Native American, Alaskan Native, and Pacific Islander students through culturally relevant programming, academic support, and intergenerational community engagement.
The Assistant Director is responsible for overseeing facility stewardship. This includes managing scheduling, marketing, booking, and billing processes for events, and developing efficient operational procedures. The AD collaborates closely with Institutional leaders including the Executive Director for Tribal Relations, the
Indigenous Nations Studies
and
ITECK
departments, Native campus leaders, Associate Vice Provost and Dean of
Student Life
and the Executive Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, to honor sovereignty and foster engagement with Native and Indigenous communities. Additionally, the AD builds strong relationships with campus departments such as student services areas, student success units, and community organizations, positioning the NASCC as a premier venue for meetings, conferences, and gatherings.
Reporting to the Executive Director of Student Access, Success and Belonging, the AD plays a critical role in advancing the mission of the Office of Student Life and Student Affairs division. Working closely with the Assistant Director of
Cultural Resource Centers , Assistant Director of
Multicultural Retention Services , and Coordinator of Native American Student Services to ensure alignment and coordination of building operations, student fee funded co‑curricular programming and multicultural academic support.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study and 3 to 4 years of experience or Master’s degree with two years of professional experience in event planning. A Bachelor’s degree and equivalent of five or more years of full‑time experience in all categories defined by the position summary may be substituted in lieu of the Master’s degree and two years of experience.
Experience organizing and planning programs and/or workshops, including processing all required paperwork and administrative duties related to programming.
Experience working with and/or advising diverse college students/populations.
Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and diverse cultures.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Experience with basic computer applications, e‑mail, etc.
Deep understanding and awareness of Native American/Alaska Native/Indigenous serving organizations and supports in the state and metro area. A comprehensive understanding of sovereignty, trust responsibilities and the significance of the nine federally recognized tribes of Oregon, as well as a deep awareness of the unique experiences and needs of urban Native American, Alaska Native, and Indigenous communities in Portland.
A successful background check will be required for employment.
Preferred Qualifications
5+ or more years providing cultural programming in a college campus multicultural center or equivalent.
Experience in building maintenance, billing and collections, supervision, and departmental relations.
Knowledge/experience with social media, Google Suite, web content management systems, Adobe Suite, Microsoft Office Suite

Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement Salary is dependent on several factors, and new employees will typically start around the Q1 level to allow for later growth within the salary band. PSU has a structured process for determining starting compensation, taking into account years of related experience, applicable skills, knowledge and abilities, market parity, and internal equity.
The starting annual salary for this position will be between $61,620 and $69,326, but may be negotiated above this range, dependent upon the factors above, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR.
