The Events Services Manager will oversee the Sales/Booking department which sells all 3 facilities (Convention Center, Performing Arts Center and Memorial Auditorium), and supervises the Administrative Analyst and Event Service Supervisors of the Convention Center.
IDEAL CANDIDATE STATEMENT The ideal candidate is an experienced venue sales and event manager with a proven track record in high-volume conventions, concerts and special event environments. This individual will bring a strong operational expertise, sound fiscal judgment, and a customer-focused approach to delivering complex events. DEFINITION Under limited direction, an Event Services Manager plans, directs, and coordinates a major section of the Sacramento Convention Center such as sales and marketing, facility operations, or events coordination; provides information and services to facility users; promotes the Center and evaluates revenue generation business; reviews and approves contracts, checks facilities and equipment for proper operation and readiness; and supervises assigned personnel.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This classification is populated with multiple incumbents who have responsibility for the coordination of significant portions of the management of the Convention Center and supervise a major section of the Convention Center Division of the Convention, Culture, and Leisure Department. The classification is distinguished from the Convention Center General Manager in that the latter classification has responsibility for total management of the Convention Center. It is distinguished from lower-level positions by the level of responsibility, extent of direct and indirect supervision involved, and responsibility for supervision and management of a major functional area.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Limited direction is provided by the Convention Center General Manager. Responsibilities include the direct and indirect supervision of supervisory, technical, clerical, and maintenance personnel.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Plans, directs, and prioritizes the work of a major section of the management of the Sacramento Convention Center; coordinates event planning and implementation and outside service needs with catering, concessionaires, security, ushers, and all other service providers, as well as with City departments and facility lessees to assure effective, efficient, and economical event operations.
Meets with facility users and prospective users to determine and meet needs; conducts site inspections for facility users and meeting planners; provides information regarding facility capabilities, services, and associated costs.
Works with the Sacramento Convention and Visitors Center to promote the Center and downtown Sacramento to potential customers; prospects and evaluates qualified revenue generation businesses that best match Center space.
Reviews and approves all contracts to ensure accuracy of space and rental charges; checks facilities and equipment to insure proper operation and readiness to meet client needs, and to maintain energy conservation procedures; prepares a variety of reports, correspondence, contracts, and studies related to events and facility use.
Supervises, trains, and evaluates assigned personnel to meet the needs of the licensee and ensure the efficient operation of Community Center events; provides technical direction to staff, City, or contract personnel in the planning, development, and implementation of facility modification; responds to facility user complaints and inquiries.
Performs other or related duties as assigned.

Experience Five years of experience in the preparation for, and presentation of, convention and entertainment events including the supervision of personnel and coordination of activities, or in supervising, planning, and scheduling the maintenance of a large multi-functional facility.
Education A Bachelor's Degree in business or public administration, marketing, or a closely related field.
Substitution Additional years of experience related to the essential duties of the position, including public relations or entertainment facility management, or hotel events planning experience, may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis, up to four years, at the discretion of the hiring authority.
