The Director of Music at Holy Cross Catholic Church is responsible for the comprehensive oversight, planning, coordination, and execution of the parish’s sacred music program. This position supports the liturgical life of the parish by ensuring that all music used in worship reflects the theology, norms, and liturgical directives of the Catholic Church.
As a bilingual parish community, Holy Cross requires collaboration and coordination between English and Spanish liturgical celebrations. The Director of Music provides leadership that fosters unity, reverence, and active participation across the entire parish community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Liturgical Music Planning
Plan and coordinate all music for:
Weekend Masses Holy Days of Obligation Sacramental celebrations (First Communion, Confirmation, Marriage) Funerals and Memorial Masses
Select music appropriate to each liturgical season in conformity with the norms of the Roman Catholic Church. Collaborate with the Liturgy Team in liturgical preparation. Coordinate bilingual and multicultural liturgies in cooperation with Hispanic ministry leadership. 2. Musical and Vocal Leadership
Serve as principal organist and pianist for assigned liturgies. Serve as cantor when needed and provide confident, skilled vocal leadership for the assembly. Possess strong, trained vocal ability suitable for leading congregational singing and proclaiming sung liturgical texts. Direct parish choir and develop cantors. Recruit, train, and mentor volunteer musicians and vocalists. Promote full, conscious, and active participation of the assembly in sung prayer. 3. Program Oversight and Development
Provide vision and leadership for the continued development of the parish music ministry. Encourage collaboration between English and Spanish music groups. Support special liturgical seasons with enhanced musical preparation. 4. Administrative Responsibilities
Develop and manage the music ministry budget in consultation with the Parish Manager. Maintain music library, copyright compliance, and licensing. Oversee care and maintenance of instruments and sound equipment. Coordinate substitute musicians when necessary. 5. Pastoral and Parish Responsibilities
Support the mission and pastoral priorities of Holy Cross Catholic Church. Participate in parish staff meetings as required. Maintain professional and respectful relationships with parishioners, staff, clergy, and volunteers. Serve as a visible and welcoming presence within the parish community. Qualifications
Formal training in music. Demonstrated proficiency in organ and piano. Demonstrated strong vocal ability and the capacity to cantor and lead congregational singing. Experience in Catholic liturgical music and choir direction. Ability to work effectively in a bilingual parish setting. Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills. Candidate must pass a level II background check and take safe environment training.
