
Weekend Meteorologist/Weather Reporter

Overview
News 3 Now/WISC-TV/Channel3000.com, Southern Wisconsin’s leading station and digital source for news, is looking for an experienced meteorologist to join our weather team. This role applies meteorological expertise, journalistic judgment, and multimedia storytelling skills to deliver accurate, engaging weather and news content across broadcast, digital, and social platforms. The position is primarily Sat/Sun AM Meteorologist, with three days per week producing content, contributing to the overall goal of providing the market with the best possible local television journalism, and filling in on other weather shifts as needed.

What You’ll Do Weather Responsibilities
Be an active participant in the tone and direction of the weather department, including:
Weather content development on‑air and on digital platforms
Team dynamics and culture
Graphic and branding development
Prepare and deliver urgent, compelling weather forecasts that drive consumer impact and connect with viewers across all platforms.
Forecast, produce, and present clear, engaging on‑air and digital weathercasts, issue weather warnings and alerts.
Aggressively handle severe and disruptive weather coverage with clarity and urgency.
Collaborate with producers and meteorologists to determine relevant weather and news coverage.
Report live on weather from the studio, newsroom, and in the field.
Innovate and experiment with the latest technology on‑air and digital, including OTT platforms, Max Reality, and social live‑streaming.
Maintain and frequently update website and social/digital platforms, particularly during changing weather conditions.
Research, develop, write, and present accurate, compelling weather stories.
Simplify complex information for viewers and coordinate appropriate visuals and graphics.
Shoot, edit, and package general news stories; travel locally to gather content as needed.
Meet daily deadlines, contribute story ideas, and actively participate in editorial and strategic planning meetings.
Contribute to the team’s overall effort to deliver the market the best possible local television journalism.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Schedule & Work Conditions
Work assigned schedule includes weekends, holidays, nights, and extended hours as required.
Works outside in heat and cold, including during severe weather and field reporting.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Proficiency with weather graphics, radar, and video production tools.
Strong writing, communication, and editorial judgment skills.
Ability to work effectively under deadlines and in high‑pressure, breaking news situations.
Flexibility to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours.
