About The Oaks Community Church
The Oaks Community Church is a Christ-centered, Spirit-filled family of believers located in a middle-class neighborhood in southwest Bakersfield, California. We are part of the worldwide family of the Christian & Missionary Alliance and a home for the nations.
The Oaks is committed to “Growing Spirit-filled Disciples of Jesus.” Founded in 1993, The Oaks has grown into a vibrant, multicultural, and multigenerational congregation that reflects God’s heart for all nations and all people, with approximately 300 people in attendance each Sunday.
Our worship service is relaxed and family-friendly, with contemporary, upbeat music. We place a strong emphasis on local and global missions, and our worship center displays over fifty national flags celebrating the diversity of our church family. Though imperfect, we live by God’s grace and love, striving to embody the warmth of true community where everyone belongs and is cared for like family.
1. Position Overview The Children’s Ministry Director partners closely with the Executive Pastor to provide vision, leadership, and long-term development for children’s ministry at The Oaks Community Church. This role focuses on building healthy teams, raising up volunteer leaders, and ensuring consistent, Christ-centered ministry for children and families.
The Director will provide hands‑on leadership in children’s programs while helping establish a strong spiritual foundation for lifelong discipleship.
2. Reports To
Executive Pastor (direct oversight)
Collaborates with the pastoral and ministry leadership team
3. Term & Commitment
12-month duration (renewable upon mutual agreement)
Part‑time: approximately 15 hours per week
4. Primary Responsibilities Ministry Leadership
Assist in planning, leading, and evaluating children’s ministry gatherings
Teach or facilitate lessons and small groups
Support Sunday services and special children’s programs
Team Development
Recruit, train, and encourage volunteer leaders
Foster a healthy ministry culture rooted in The Oaks’ mission and values
Program Support
Help design and implement seasonal events (VBS, family nights, special programs)
Provide communication, scheduling, and resource coordination
Assist with fundraising and budget recommendations for children’s ministry initiatives
Personal & Spiritual Growth
Participate in discipleship and leadership development
Participate in local, regional, and national personal/ministry development events.
5. Qualifications
A growing relationship with Jesus Christ and alignment with The Oaks’ statement of faith
Commitment to the mission and values of The Oaks Community Church; open to male & female candidates
Currently active and involved in a local church
Experience or strong interest in children’s and family ministry
Passion for and understanding of ministry in a multi-ethnic and multi-generational church
Must pass a California background check
Preferred: BA or working toward a degree in Christian Education, Ministry, or related field
