Job Description Alex Valdez is a nonprofit leader and former Sergeant in the New Jersey Army National Guard. A first-generation American, Alex was born and raised in Kearny and is the proud product of Kearny Public Schools as well as Rutgers‑Newark where he earned his Master’s degree in Public Administration. Alex is passionate about public service; he has coordinated after‑school and summer programs for low‑income youth in Passaic and Paterson, and worked on humanitarian aid missions to support refugee families who, like his own, came here to seek a better life.
Alex is running for Hudson County Commissioner in District 9 to make sure those who call Hudson County home can afford to stay and work in our community.
As the Campaign Manager, you will be the primary contact for campaign volunteers, supporters, and organizations. Your role will involve overseeing and coordinating the day‑to‑day organizing operations of the campaign. You will work closely with the candidate, the County Party, and Senior Advisor to develop and implement the campaign field plan, manage field staff, oversee the communications plan, and be responsible for tracking both quantitative and qualitative field metrics. This position is located in Kearny, New Jersey.
This position requires strong leadership abilities, communication skills, organizational skills, and the drive to motivate others toward winning the election.
The ideal candidate has previous campaign/political experience, excellent multitasking and problem‑solving skills, thrives under pressure, and shares the candidate’s vision for a bold and innovative future.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement the field organizing plan
Recruit and train staff and volunteers
Develop relationships with the County Party, local parties, and coalition groups
Oversee a social media program
Oversee voter protection efforts
Manage Call Time with the candidate
Manage the campaign budget and events calendar
Constantly evaluate program effectiveness
Foster an inclusive team culture
Other responsibilities as needed
Qualifications
Must live or be willing to relocate within commuting distance to Hudson County, NJ
Have at least two campaign cycles of field/organizing experience, finance or campaign experience
Proficiency in VAN, ActBlue, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Docs - willing to learn additional campaign tools adopted by the campaign.
Experience developing, training, and empowering staff and volunteers
Demonstrate multicultural competence - the awareness, knowledge, and skills needed to work with others who are culturally different to oneself in meaningful, relevant, and productive ways
Commitment to establishing a culture of respect and community
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
A positive, team‑oriented attitude
Valid driver’s license
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends
Ability to speak Spanish is a plus, but not required
