PURPOSE OF JOB:
The Kansas City Public Schools (KCPS) is committed to fostering multilingual family engagement and ensuring access to school programs, services, and resources. The Multilingual Family and Community Engagement Coordinator will ensure KCPS communications, events, and family engagement efforts are linguistically accessible while supporting the continuous improvement of services across the district. This position will supervise ELL Family Liaisons and other assigned staff.
Responsibilities Staff Supervision & Program Oversight
Supervise assigned staff, including EL Family Liaisons and EL Enrollment Specialists.
Provide feedback, evaluate performance, and facilitate professional growth for Language Services staff.
Oversee volunteer engagement processes, including onboarding, training coordination, scheduling, and ongoing communication.
Maintain accurate records of volunteer participation, background checks (as required), and follow‑up actions to ensure compliance with district procedures.
Conduct regular follow‑up with volunteers and partner organizations to evaluate effectiveness, address needs, and strengthen long‑term partnerships.
Manage required state reporting, ensuring accuracy and compliance, including but not limited to student, refugee, immigrant, and migrant data.
All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Family & Community Engagement Coordination
Coordinate with liaisons, social workers, and other stakeholders to schedule, plan, and execute parent meetings, events, and engagement initiatives supporting KCPS multilingual families.
Partner with district offices (e.g., Admissions, Exceptional Education, Students in Transition) to facilitate EL enrollment and family‑centered activities.
Develop and maintain partnerships with community organizations and agencies to provide supplemental services and resources for multilingual families.
Partnership & MOU Management
Develop, draft, and maintain Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with community partners, service providers, and volunteer organizations to ensure expectations, compliance with district policies, and alignment with program goals.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to gather information, negotiate roles and responsibilities, and finalize MOU documentation.
Ensure ongoing alignment of partnerships with program needs and district procedures.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Education, or a related field, or a college degree with three or more years of experience in interpretation and translation services.
Strong command of the English language (fluency in speaking, reading, writing, and oral comprehension).
Fluency in speaking, reading, writing, and oral comprehension of at least one high‑frequency language spoken at KCPS (Spanish/Swahili/Somali/etc.).
Three or more years of experience managing/supervising staff.
Experience working with immigrant, refugee, and diverse communities.
Reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree preferred.
Experience collaborating with and partnering with community organizations.
Physical Demands
This job requires that the employee be able to: sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands, fingers, and reach with hands and fingers; bend, stoop, and lift objects of at least ten pounds. Job requires the employee occasionally to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Visual ability requires mono and color vision, close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Terms of Employment
Length of work year: 261 days, 5 days a week, 7.5 hrs. per day
Benefits: Health and Dental Insurance are provided. KCPS Defined Benefit Pension plan – mandatory 9% contribution is required from employees and matched by KCPS; Voluntary retirement savings plans are also available.
