Overview This internship is part of the Schwartz Community Based Internships. This premier opportunity allows UR undergraduate students to access traditionally unpaid opportunities that highlight the value of the humanities in the workplace. If selected, students will receive a $5,000 stipend over a minimum 270-hour period in a non-for-profit organization in the Rochester, NY region.

About Mary Cariola Center Mary Cariola Center is seeking Marketing & Communications Interns. Mary Cariola Center is an independent not-for-profit organization that operates a school for children with intellectual developmental disabilities and complex medical challenges located on three campuses in Rochester. Cariola also owns six residential homes for children and youth with severe behavioral issues and complex medical conditions.

Program Highlights 2026 marks the third year of a partnership with the Schwartz Community-Based Summer Internship Program. This is an opportunity to join our high-performing team and gain exposure to all aspects of Marketing and Communication. The successful Intern will be provided the opportunity to utilize their skills and experiences to help improve the lives of people with disabilities. This internship will provide practical experiences through active participation, direct exposure and engagement in a variety of functions as well as mentorship. Interns will work closely with the Marketing and Communications Team, as well as Executive staff members to craft messaging as well as increase general community awareness for the agency. This is an unpaid internship, for academic credit or experience. Full time or Part time.

Roles & Responsibilities The Marketing and Communications intern will work directly with the Director, Marketing & Communication and the Marketing Specialist. Assignments may include social media postings, E-Newsletter writing and production, overview coordination of media buys, attend team meetings, draft press releases and media alerts, and other marketing communications tasks. The objective for a high energy applicant is twofold; assist in any and all overflow work from the department and gaining as much knowledge as possible from the experience. Further assignments and tasks to be determined by staff.

Qualifications & Requirements Requirements include:

Personal or public transportation to and from Mary Cariola’s Elmwood (1000 Elmwood Avenue) School campus.

Ability to work (very limited) evenings during special events.

A cover letter is preferred, outlining why the applicant would be a good choice to intern at Cariola.
