Job Description Orange Community Education and Recreation is currently seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic, highly qualified individual to serve as a Recreation Specialist with focus on nature-based programs. This multifaceted position is a key part of the department and assists in supervising and delivering outdoor and nature- focused youth programs and services. The Recreation Specialist is primarily responsible for contributing to the oversight of nature-based programs, supervision of participants, and implementation of comprehensive services and programs that meet the needs and interests of each participant and our constituents. These programs and services provide recreational opportunities for environmental education, outdoor exploration, and environmental stewardship, all designed to engage youth in a small group setting.
Passion for outdoor recreation programming, nature education, and working with youth in a natural, community-orientated environment
Excellent organizational and customer relation skills, comprehend oral and/or written instructions
Detail oriented
Ability to handle and prioritize diverse duties with solid commitment to serving others and the competency to work and collaborate with a dedicated team of community education and recreation professionals in public school setting.
Extensive experience working with school age children and ability to deal firmly, tactfully, and courteously with youth participants in outdoor, educational/recreational settings is necessary.
Strong and effective leadership skills
Current CPR certificate and concussion in sport certificate, will be required.
Candidates must also meet other general qualifications of Orange Community Education & Recreation and the Orange City School District.
This position will run Weeks of 6/15 - 6/18, 6/22 - 6/26, 7/20 - 7/24, 8/3 - 8/7, 8:45 AM - 3:15 PM, Monday - Friday. The hourly pay starts at $14/hour.
